Background and History

Chidori wants a comfortable retirement, but Yamamoto repeatedly assigns him more work as the Gotei 13 develops. He recruits future officers, trains its early members in the four Shinigami disciplines, and becomes its Chief Strategist. His competitive training matches rapidly improve the recruits despite his reluctance to teach 6 18 38.

His early battles expose a gap between his sword skill and stronger opponents’ Reiatsu. Near-fatal fights with an Adjuchas, Zendouji Yuuhin, and Baraggan drive his growth and reveal powers beyond those of an ordinary Soul Reaper. He later develops his spatial abilities, learns to sustain Perfect Sanctification, and gains Bankai 6 28 35 41 74.

Chidori warns the Gotei 13 of an approaching Quincy invasion and helps prepare its fighters. He protects Hane Hane Chiyo after her mission weakens Yhwach, holds Yhwach off until Yamamoto arrives, and helps create the opening for Yamamoto’s decisive attack. After the war, he oversees reconstruction and helps replace Central 46 with a strength-based selection system 59 137 139 140 142.

Across later generations, he continues to train younger Shinigami, including Kenpachi Zaraki, Chizome Souya, Yoruichi, Byakuya, and Soi Fon. Following a later great battle, he finally retires 155 314 347 409 428 439 525.

Personality

Chidori resists promotions and paperwork, yet repeatedly accepts responsibility when Soul Society or people close to him are in danger. He turns dangerous encounters into recruitment opportunities and prefers delegation when administrative work cannot be avoided 38 54 75 137 142.

He teaches through demanding fights, competition, and teasing. His methods can appear harsh, but he adjusts training to a student’s limits and looks for ways to keep less powerful fighters alive 18 314 409 158. His playfulness gives way to careful analysis against formidable opponents, particularly when learning how to counter Yhwach’s future manipulation 137 139.
