Beside the wall near the porthole, Barry laid the charred corpse across his lap and silently stared at her pained expression.
The corpse's mouth hung wide open as though she had been trying to scream, but her completely dehydrated body made her look like a mummy in a Green Lantern uniform. Her flesh and bones had become terribly brittle, as if a touch would reduce them to dust.
He wanted to close her eyes. His trembling hand reached toward her eyelids, but the dried lids had fused to her burst eyeballs, and he did not dare apply any force.
In the lab, Deathstroke was fighting the scavenger, while Dex-Starr flew uselessly around behind him. Tentacles and arms had nearly tangled into a ball of yarn.
Harley strolled over to Barry, looked down at him, then pulled a lollipop from her coat pocket. She unwrapped it, popped it into her mouth, and began happily licking it.
"What are you going to do?"
Barry took a deep breath and held it in his chest for a long time, refusing to let it out. Harley even began to wonder whether he was smelling the "barbecue" before he finally answered.
"Defeat Darkseid and avenge Jessica."
Harley licked her candy, glanced at Diana peering into the lab nearby, then crouched beside Barry and asked in a low voice, "Do you mean kill Darkseid? You've never killed anyone before, right? I can help you."
She mysteriously handed Barry a small handgun—a police revolver, no less. Who knew where she had stolen it from.
Barry had no interest in Harley's joke. Defeat Darkseid with a little handgun? He was not Batwoman.
