The maze contained not only contestants, but also monsters placed there by the professors, including Minotaurs. It was a contest of strength, luck, and imagination. Besides Harry and Hermione, eight others from different schools would be taking part.
The former Quidditch pitch had become utterly unrecognizable. A twenty-foot-high hedge enclosed the edge of the grounds, and there was a gap before the champions—the entrance to the enormous maze.
The passageways inside were pitch-black and rather frightening.
The spectators outside could still see only limited areas through monitoring cameras, but that did nothing to dampen their anticipation over who would claim the final championship. The stands were packed, with over a thousand students filing into their seats, along with even more adult wizards who had come to watch the spectacle.
