"How could you call it cringey? Spider-Man's burning spirit was weeping!" Su Ming tapped her on the head, then suppressed a laugh and rubbed it for her. "But when did you learn Japanese?"

"I'm a useless shut-in nerd. Why else do you think I have trouble spelling in English? I learned too many other languages!" Gwen rapped Deadman's skull and gave Deathstroke a disdainful side-eye. "So I could understand anime and argue with people online, I taught myself the more widely used languages around the world."

As she spoke, she poked her fingers into the dead man's skull and scooped around in his brains for fun. Her toes also twisted against the ground as if crushing ants, like she was adorably sulking because Deathstroke had underestimated her.

If not for the brains inside the skull making endless squelching noises, she really would have looked rather cute.

"Come to think of it, you do meet one of the basic requirements for becoming a mercenary. At least you've passed the language barrier and can take jobs worldwide." Su Ming took several magazines from his belt pouch and handed them to the girl. She had picked up the drug dealer's gun earlier. "Since you have that advantage, do you want to join the trade?"

The universality of technology really was impressive. Humans from who knew how many different universes all used roughly similar compact gunpowder projectile weapons, either 9mm or .45 caliber. Perhaps that was fate at work.

"Weren't you planning to hire me long-term? Whether I become a mercenary or a kept female student, it's up to you."

Gwen smiled with narrowed eyes. With the battlefield so close at hand, she instead found herself growing excited.

Maybe her mind ran too fast, making both her words and movements seem a little unhinged,
