Following his own deductions, Deadpool skipped through the corridor like an elementary school kid after class, entered the elevator, then crossed another corridor, heading all the way toward the center of the sphere.
The ship was not particularly large, roughly one-tenth the size of Manhattan. Walking across it on two legs was no great challenge.
Before long, he reached the center of the spherical ship. Sure enough, there was a room at the end of the corridor. Its automatic doors stood wide open, and the room beyond looked pitch-black, like the gaping maw of some eerie monster.
"This should be it. I bet The Commander is hiding by the door, waiting for me to go in so he can violently blow up my asshole, then challenge me to a fencing match while I'm weakened."
Deadpool pressed himself spread-eagled against the corridor wall and whispered stealthily:
"But it's fine. I came prepared. As long as I roll into the control room like a ball, he won't be able to grab my weak point!"
Having explained his plan, Wade took a deep breath. He then crouched down, hugged his knees, and barely managed to curl himself into a ball. Wobbling and bumping along, he rolled toward the control room at about a turtle's pace.
The distance was only around fifteen meters, yet he took a full half minute to roll across it. He veered off course and toppled over several times before finally passing through the doorway.
The control room was not completely dark. There was still some light inside, coming from a console whose upright display emitted a dim glow.
There was some reflected light, too.
That was because a large bald head stood before the screen, watching Wade with a numb expression.
