The teleportation began immediately. By group, Daisy and the others were sent to the first planet.
They appeared in an alley in New York. It looked almost exactly like 40K Earth: rats, cockroaches, sewage, pollution. Other than the lack of Black people shooting themselves up at the mouth of the alley, nothing had changed.
Cars streamed along the streets beneath clear, windy skies. New York City was filled with the smell of exhaust fumes, making their noses itch.
"Seems... pretty ordinary." Miss Poole's gaze settled on the cars speeding past. Tilting her head, she spoke to the women behind her. "There don't seem to be any zombies here. Look, everyone on the streets is so energetic. And this doesn't seem like Boom Tube Teleportation either. Didn't they say that kind of teleportation sounded like thunder? Why was this completely silent?"
Daisy had already put the extra totems back into her waist pouch. Holding one in her hand, she slipped it into a hidden crack in the wall behind a trash can before looking out onto the street.
Well, the pedestrians in this world certainly were energetic. Acquaintances meeting on the street greeted each other with raised-arm salutes. Red hanging banners draped from towering buildings, bearing either swastikas or eagles clutching Iron Crosses. The street police all wore black leather coats.
"This is a Nazi world."
Now that Daisy had regained the ability to complain, she put away Mjolnir and returned to her ordinary appearance of jeans and a T-shirt. The women on the street, however, all wore long dresses, each one poised and dignified like a noblewoman.
