A river of white light wound through the sky toward the distance, serving as a guiding beacon. Deathstroke led his student slowly along its course. They were moving so slowly that even the Cloak of Levitation, being used as a flying carpet, seemed a little listless.

Dark clouds filled the sky above the river of light, making the aurora-like band resemble a fluorescent tube. The world's lighting probably depended entirely on them.

Most towns were located beneath the four bands of light. After all, light meant a great deal to humans. In the dark wilderness beyond lay all manner of deformed monsters and incomprehensible lifeforms, like things created by Merlin's malicious thoughts, born from the darkest fantasies.

The monorail was a circular route. Between Lud and Topeka, it passed through Candleton, Rilly Town, Dog Falls, and Dashu.

It raced endlessly between those towns in an infinite cycle, as though it were forever repeating its own destiny, day after day, with no end in sight.

Throughout the multiverse of the Dark Tower Universe, the phenomenon of "cycles" appeared with remarkable frequency.

For Merlin, who represented darkness, if he wanted entertainment, he had to make worlds repeat themselves, allowing the creatures within them to make different choices against highly similar circumstances, then observe the different consequences those choices brought and derive pleasure from them.

It had to be said that this was far more sophisticated and interesting than Kang the Conqueror's methods.

"Master, why did you say that Holloway, who doesn't understand gods, is instead the best candidate to create one?" Magik was still as adorably Russian as ever, as though the vicious Hell Lord from not long ago had not been her at all. When she asked, she even stuck out her little tongue, deliberately acting cute in a bashful manner.
