"If only we knew where he wanted to go. But we don't. Fine, none of us are speedsters. Where are the new footprints you found? Get those two over there to come take a look."
Deathstroke waved at the two speedsters on the distant dune, signaling for them to join the investigation.
Jesse was merely a means of transport, but to show that he treated her as an equal, he let her join in as well.
The key was Jay. He was an old hand; perhaps he really could spot something.
"Little ape, you said you found our target's footprints? Where? Why didn't I notice them before?" Jay arrived in an instant, scooping Bobo up and holding him in his arms.
That way, when Bobo pointed out the direction, he could keep his eye level even with the ape's, making it easier to search.
"At the bottom of this pool. You didn't go into the water when you came last time." The ape clearly was not accustomed to physical contact. He did not like being held, but he still answered the old man. "Good thing I used to be a circus ape, so I know how to dive and found this clue."
Just as humans often learned all sorts of useless skills in Hawaii, apes tended to learn their skills in the circus.
"Wait a moment. Let me take a look."
The old man did not waste words. He put the black-furred animal back down, handed his pot-lid hat to him, and plunged headfirst into the pool.
Seeing him, Jesse wanted to imitate him, but Deathstroke grabbed her.
"You can't swim. What are you getting into the water for?"
"Ah, right." The girl scratched her head. She had forgotten about that and had only been thinking about seeing the clue.
