"Are you saying Yggdrasil in the Asgard dimension has come back to life?"
In the Round Table conference room of the Hall of Justice, Deathstroke was drinking and smoking with Bobo. Hearing the Adjutant's latest report, his expression turned somewhat strange.
The one on duty at the Hall of Justice tonight was Martian Manhunter. That green skeleton with the perpetually miserable face was not in the conference room, but over in the command center lined with hundreds of monitors.
Barry, Batwoman, and the others were all on Deathstroke's 40K Earth. The Justice League was short-handed here, and Martian Manhunter did not feel comfortable leaving Black Adam, who had only recently joined the Justice League, to watch the global surveillance feeds. Never mind the notoriously careless Shazam.
He was still a minor, after all. Night shifts were hardly suitable work for a child, and the Justice League could not employ child labor.
Meanwhile, Diana had taken Kara to handle the onboarding procedures. It was a legitimate organization, after all. Before joining, there was a whole series of mandatory steps: physical examinations, meal card issuance, photographs and recordings, oaths, and so on.
The Justice League had insurance and all sorts of benefits. After registering, members were even issued a little badge bearing their Justice League membership number and identity. It served both as identification and as Batwoman's tracking and listening device.
People like Diana and Superman would never carry something like that on them, but for some eighteenth-rate Superheroes, it felt like another layer of protection.
Kara might not need it, but she still had to have it—especially since Deathstroke had specifically emphasized dental insurance.
Perhaps some people did not understand what that kind of insurance meant in the United States, so here was a more direct comparison.
