"The last diary entry was from 1990." Harley closed the diary and looked up at Little Bee. "So are Jonathan and Janey still alive?"
Her little hand waved a few times in front of her, as if reinforcing her point. Jonathan had been born in 1929; if he had lived until now, it would not have been impossible.
"They're dead. Janey died of lung cancer in the autumn of 1990, and Jonathan died of bone cancer that winter." Unfortunately, the heartless Su Ming shook his head. He pressed a finger against the diary, making its pages tremble. Ink-black smoke flowed from his fingertips and wrote strange, coded symbols across the blank page. "Their work at a nuclear physics institute in that era meant they had a higher chance of getting cancer than mixing workers at Gotham's ACE Chemical Plant."
"Then they..."
Harley rarely felt a touch of sympathy. She had just watched the story of the pair falling in love and seen their happy life together, so learning that they were already dead was a little sudden.
She just wanted to know whether they had died horribly.
She had already determined that, at some point, the timeline the two had inhabited had completely overlapped with Earth-0's history. And Earth-0 had never exactly been peaceful. When most people died there, they started off dying miserably, and plenty had kicked the bucket.
"Didn't I already tell you? They died of illness. Their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were all at their bedside when they passed away."
