As Bruce issued orders with practiced calm, the control room door opened. Barbara came in carrying someone over her shoulder, panting for breath.
"Whew. Ugh, my back..." Barbara dropped the person on the floor with a pained look, hurried to a chair, and stretched in the opposite direction. An old injury seemed to be acting up.
M'gann floated over and rubbed her back with small hands. "Who's this? Don't tell me someone else fell into the Hall of Justice."
"I sent her to check on Nightwing."
Batwoman said it casually, her eyes never leaving the screen. Barbara pulled off her mask and glared at Batwoman's back.
"I got there too late. Tarantula took Nightwing again. That woman has no shame!"
"But you brought Copperhead back." Batwoman seemed to have eyes in the back of her head. More precisely, Jar-ro had seen him from the desk and told his dad.
"Her? Or him? Anyway, this person was unconscious in Dick's hospital room. I thought it was strange, so I brought him back. He must've been planning something bad."
M'gann tilted her little head in confusion. "Why was it 'him' one moment and 'her' the next?"
Barbara tugged M'gann's hand to make her bend down, then whispered a few words in her ear. M'gann quickly covered her mouth, looking incredulous.
Humans really were complicated.
Batwoman turned and checked Copperhead's injuries. A blow to the head and face had knocked him unconscious, but there was no sign that Tarantula's venom had affected him.
"Arkham and Blackgate still haven't been repaired. Lock him up beneath the Hall of Justice for now."
"So what do we do next?" Barbara put her mask back on and tossed her hair behind her. She hauled Copperhead up from the floor, with M'gann helping from the side.
