Wang Ziteng grimly picked up the baby-killing condom he had just thrown away. It was no illusion-it was the ribbed kind he always used. His expression darkened further.
"Shut up, all of you!" he roared. "My cousin told me ordinary people can't get out of Ghost Hitting the Wall. The only way to break free is to see through it with Spirituality. Hurry up and fucking check whether any of you are about to awaken your Spirituality!"
With that, he desperately concentrated and prayed that his own Spirituality would awaken. He had no idea whether being chased by a Ghost earlier counted as facing life and death, but at this point, prayer was all he had.
Fang Xiu ignored what the others were doing and began feeling along the wall on the right. He never expected anyone else to awaken their Spirituality and become a Spirit Tamer.
Of everyone here, he was undoubtedly the most likely to become a Spirit Tamer.
He alone had truly experienced life and death and come into close contact with a Ghost.
If he had not become a Spirit Tamer, the others had even less chance. Rather than pray, he might as well look for clues.
He began recalling the psychiatric hospital's overall layout and decided that the way out should be on the right.
He had passed through a stairwell before, and its exit had been on the right. Although he could not yet tell which building of the psychiatric hospital they were in, their layouts should presumably be the same.
Since Ghost Hitting the Wall was an illusion, closing his eyes and feeling along the right side as he went downstairs would give him a good chance of finding a door.
Fang Xiu closed his eyes and started downstairs, feeling along the wall on the right. His strange behavior immediately drew everyone's attention.
After all, everyone else was standing still. Fang Xiu alone had broken away from the group to act on his own, so it was hard not to notice him.
Wang Ziteng watched Fang Xiu thoughtfully. By now, he had also realized there was something unusual about him. He was too calm. From beginning to end, he had never shown the slightest panic, not even when he saw the Ghost.
He could not help recalling what had happened earlier. When the Female Physician appeared, he had been the first to react and flee. But what had Fang Xiu been doing?
Fang Xiu had not run. Instead, he had stood against the wall to avoid being jostled.
Despite being closest to the front, he had not chosen to flee immediately. In the end, only Fang Xiu, Zhao Hao, and Li Feifei had remained.
Now Li Feifei was gone. She must be dead.
But Fang Xiu and Zhao Hao had stayed in that corridor for at least a minute. What had they been doing?
Why hadn't the Ghost killed them? Why hadn't they run?
Two men had spent a full minute with a female Ghost. Had they been taking advantage of her or something?
Wang Ziteng dismissed that absurd thought. Although he had no idea what the two had done during that minute, one thing was certain.
The Ghost only killed one person at a time: three minutes for a man, two for a woman. During that period, they were absolutely safe, even if they stayed beside her. Fang Xiu and Zhao Hao surviving was the best proof.
By then, Fang Xiu had already descended the stairs, putting some distance between himself and the others.
Seeing Fang Xiu go downstairs, Wang Ziteng seemed to realize something. He copied him, closing his eyes and feeling along the wall as he descended. Everyone else was drawn to what the two were doing.
All Fang Xiu had felt beneath his hand was solid, rough wall. But after he reached the fifteenth step, the texture changed.
It became smooth and increasingly cold, as though he were touching steel.
Fang Xiu abruptly opened his eyes. Looking at the bare wall before him, he pressed both hands against it without hesitation and began searching for a door handle.
Just then, Wang Ziteng felt his way over, copying Fang Xiu's movements. He soon noticed the different texture too and was overcome with joy.
"It's a door!"
With a click, Fang Xiu turned the handle he had just found, and the door opened.
At some point, an iron door had materialized in the wall. Now it stood open, revealing a dim corridor.
Whoosh!
Wang Ziteng charged inside like a madman, the first to enter.
Fang Xiu said nothing and simply walked through the doorway.
Seeing the exit, everyone else rushed inside like mad as well.
The group began fleeing down the corridor. Although Fang Xiu had been the second to enter, he fell back to second-to-last place.
It was not because he was slow, but because there was no need.
Facing the Female Physician, you did not need to outrun her. You only needed to outrun the person in last place. Besides, this would make it easier to touch her thighs a few more times while she ate, giving you a chance to awaken your Spirituality sooner.
And sometimes, being at the very front was not necessarily a good thing.
Fang Xiu knew perfectly well that the Female Physician was not the only Ghost in this psychiatric hospital. Most were locked inside patient rooms, but some of those doors were open.
As they ran, Wang Ziteng, who was leading the way, suddenly stopped. The others stopped one after another behind him.
Two branching passages lay ahead, one to the left and one to the right. Both were dark and deep, with visibility of less than a meter. No one could see what lay beyond.
No one dared proceed. If they picked a dead end, wouldn't the Female Physician soon have them trapped like turtles in a jar?
Everyone's gaze instinctively settled on Fang Xiu, who had just caught up at the rear of the group.
Since Fang Xiu had found the way out of Ghost Hitting the Wall, they naturally assumed he might find a way out now too.
Unfortunately, Fang Xiu did not know which path to choose either.
He had not explored the entire psychiatric hospital earlier. Instead, he had passed back and forth through its walls like a ghost, learning its general layout and a few routes he had traveled.
As luck would have it, neither of these passages was among the routes he knew.
"Fang Xiu, which way should we go?"
Wang Ziteng hurriedly asked.
Looking at their expectant eyes, Fang Xiu found it rather amusing. While fleeing, they had practically wanted to shove him aside, but now that they had encountered a problem, they remembered him.
Wasn't he just a convenient tool to them?
Still, Fang Xiu did not care, because he regarded them as tools too. As things stood, none of them could defeat the Female Physician. The only way to buy time was to pay for it with lives.
Fang Xiu said nothing and headed straight down the passage on the right.
Even though he did not know which route was correct, he knew they could not waste time now. Every moment they had was being bought with human lives.
Seeing Fang Xiu head right, everyone followed without exception.
But just then-
The cracking of rotating joints rang out.
Everyone looked back. The Female Physician was already hanging upside down from the ceiling like a spider, her deathly pale eyes fixed on them. Her white coat stood out starkly in the dim corridor.
"Ah!!"
"Run!"
"Get out of the way!"
The crowd erupted, running for their lives.
But human speed could not begin to compare with the Female Physician's. Two legs could not outrun four.
Her phantom-like figure instantly appeared on the ceiling above them. Long strands of black hair dangled down, lashing toward the last person in the group.
