Background / History
During Immortal Ancient, the Willow Deity was the Ancestral Sacrificial Spirit and a peer of the Six Paths Reincarnation Immortal King. After undergoing tribulations, the deity entered nirvana in the lower realm. The resulting injuries were so severe that even portions of its memories were lost, although its underlying nature remained unchanged 17 28 34.
The Willow Deity descended at the Shi Clan’s Ancestral Land decades before Shi Zhao’s arrival, accompanied by the bone recording Divine Guidance, the first volume of the Primitive True Understanding. Beneath the settlement lay the remains of the Stone Kingdom’s strongest Sacrificial Spirit, which had established a vast concealing formation. The Willow Deity absorbed power from what lay underground while recuperating, breaking that formation. Having benefited at the Shi Clan’s expense, the deity protected the villagers in return 14 22 45.
Appearance
The Willow Deity’s lower-realm form is a lightning-scorched willow at Stone Village’s entrance, beside the altar adjoining Shi Yunfeng’s house 16 17.
- Charred trunk: A broken remnant more than ten meters in diameter 18.
- Single living branch: Exceptionally verdant, contrasting sharply with the burned wood; it can move like a brilliant divine chain 17 18.
- Protective radiance: A hazy halo spreads from the willow to envelop the entire village 25 26.
- Vitality-rich shoot: After awakening, its green shoot contains enough divine essence and vitality to tempt Zhu Yan into trying to eat it 35.
Personality
The Willow Deity is ordinarily aloof and sparing with words. Before addressing Shi Zhao, it had barely reacted to village affairs for decades. It accepts none of the beasts presented during her first offering ceremony, despite the villagers’ sincere observance of the rites 18 19 22.
Its reserve does not exclude patience or humor. It listens without irritation when Shi Hao seeks someone to confide in, while gently warning him against an unhealthy obsession with strength. With Shi Zhao, it knowingly answers her exaggerated claims of devotion by teaching a sacrificial dance and asking whether she is satisfied 36 37.
The deity is restrained in combat: it protects Stone Village but does not attack uninvolved onlookers without provocation. Because its recovery remains incomplete, it prefers relocation over needless battles that would consume its limited power 26 28.
Abilities & Skills
Willow Branch and Root Combat
The seemingly delicate branch can pierce, bind, drain, and destroy powerful opponents 26.
- Pierces the enormous flood dragon manifested by the lord of Luofu Marsh, then splits the lord in two 26.
- Absorbs the defeated lord’s essence, energy, and spirit 26.
- Captures Thunder Marquis and drains the lightning he releases until he is exhausted 26.
- Shatters Purple Mountain Marquis’s Purple Cloud Giant and kills the Golden Wolf Tribe’s chief despite his Ancestral Artifact 26.
- Uses its roots to break the attacking claws of the old wolf’s shed-pelt avatar and bury it as fertilizer 26.
- With only one branch available, allows Shi Zhao to finish the two fleeing survivors using empowered arrows 26.
Protection and Spatial Transportation
The Willow Deity shelters an entire settlement and can move people or the village itself through the void 26 28.
- Its halo effortlessly blocks the lord of Luofu Marsh’s assault 26.
- Shelters villagers from the oppressive effects of the Venerable battles; the subsequent beast tide gives Stone Village a wide berth 27 28.
- Sends Shi Zhao tens of thousands of miles away through the void 28.
- Interweaves Order Divine Chains and makes all of Stone Village vanish, relocating it beyond the immediate disaster 28 34.
Healing and Life Restoration
The deity’s sap possesses potent restorative effects, while its branch can stimulate changes in living creatures 17 36.
- Brushes a Green-Scaled Eagle egg and induces an atavistic transformation in the developing offspring 17.
- Saves the badly injured Little Red Bird after Stone Village’s relocation 34.
- Uses two crystalline drops of sap to heal Shi Zhao’s fissured arm after a failed technique combination, restoring her skin despite the strange energies lingering in the wounds 36.
Empowerment and Artifact Refinement
The Willow Deity can lend power directly to a cultivator and bless or refine weapons 26 28 44.
- Channels immense power into Shi Zhao through a branch wrapped around her waist, enabling her to unleash the Big Peng Treasure Bow and Roc Feather Arrows’ Venerable-level strength 26.
- Blesses Shi Zhao’s bow, arrows, and Bian Battle Spear before sending her away during the calamity 28 29.
- The spear’s blessing supports her battle against the Heaven-Swallowing Sparrow; the arrows’ blessing persists long enough to wound Bird Saint Honghu’s spirit body 29 31.
- Refines the Li Fire Bull Demon’s horn and the old Suanni’s dragon horns into replacement arrows for Shi Zhao 44.
Divine Perception and Ancient Knowledge
The Willow Deity communicates through divine thought and possesses knowledge extending back to ancient inheritances 18 35.
- Detects that Shi Zhao seems both to belong and not belong to the current ancient history 18.
- Senses the absence of faith behind her declarations of devotion 28 35.
- Identifies Divine Guidance and recognizes the Six Paths of Reincarnation Heavenly Art 22 35.
- Explains that the Mountain Treasure is a lost Supreme Hall legacy and links the Bone Box to traditions concerning the Primitive True Understanding’s middle volume, the Transcendence Chapter 35.
- Knows about Shi Hao’s lost Supreme Bone and explains that regrowth is possible, but not guaranteed 37.
Cultivation Instruction
The deity tailors its guidance to each sibling’s needs rather than simply granting more techniques 36 37.
- Sacrificial Spirit Dance: Transmits a Precious Technique to Shi Zhao through a touch to her brow, explaining that she can use it to call upon the deity. It later evolves within one of her reshaped cave heavens, surprising her with its quality 36 46.
- Willow Deity’s own method: Promises to teach Shi Zhao when her realm is sufficient; warns that she cannot cultivate it at her current level 36.
- Technique safety: Advises Shi Zhao to stop using the Six Paths of Reincarnation Heavenly Art prematurely, since its backlash may injure her before she defeats an enemy 36.
- Ancient foundation formula: Gives Shi Hao a recipe used for the young of heaven-tier primordial fierce beasts. Zhu Yan’s blood and ordinary substitutes make it usable despite Stone Village’s limited resources 37 38.
- Physical training: Directs Shi Hao to the Chaotic Stone Waterfall Cluster, seventy li away, for demanding cultivation 37.
Relationships
- Shi Zhao — Protected cultivator and appointed attendant. Shi Yunfeng places her in charge of serving the deity after their first exchange. The deity subsequently empowers her weapons, heals her, and guides her cultivation while seeing through her pretended piety 18 19 26 36.
- Shi Hao — Young villager and cultivation pupil. Confides his wish to protect his sister and find his parents; receives reassurance, training guidance, and information about his Supreme Bone 37.
- Shi Yunfeng and Stone Village — Devoted worshippers under the deity’s protection. The chief leads sacrificial observances and treats Shi Zhao as a means of communicating with their otherwise silent guardian 18 19.
- Six Paths Reincarnation Immortal King — Ancient peer with whom the Willow Deity once stood shoulder to shoulder. His Reincarnation Disk fragment recognizes the reborn deity and confirms its identity 34.
- Little Red Bird — Injured beneficiary of the deity’s aid after the Great Wilderness disaster 34.
- Zhu Yan / Furball — Tries to gnaw on the deity’s vitality-rich shoot before Shi Zhao stops him; his blood later becomes the main ingredient in the foundation formula the deity recommends for Shi Hao 35 37 38.
