Background / History
Childhood at Martial King Manor
Shi Yi’s Double Pupils were recognized at birth, making him a focus of the clan’s hopes. He received special medicinal baptisms from an unusually young age, while elders and other families sought opportunities to cultivate ties with him 1 2.
His older cousin Shi Zhao treated him more naturally than the relatives who revered him. She teased him, dragged him into childhood adventures, and used his favored status to escape punishment after they raided the manor’s spiritual pool. Shi Yi eventually challenged her to discover the strength he needed to surpass; despite losing immediately, he accepted her encouragement that Double Pupils were themselves a path to invincibility 3.
His mother and great-grandfather Shi Yuan urged him to distance himself from Shi Zhao, whom they considered inferior. Remembering her advice about conviction and principles, Shi Yi instead resolved that his cultivation path was his own to choose 4.
The Supreme Bone Incident
Shi Yi sensed that the infant Shi Hao possessed something extraordinary, but Shi Zhao blocked his inspection and shattered the beams released by his Double Pupils. His irritation also reflected jealousy over the attention she gave the younger child 5.
After learning that Shi Hao possessed a Supreme Bone, Shi Yi’s mother secretly arranged its extraction and transplantation into her son. Shi Ziling and Qin Yining discovered both boys unconscious in an underground chamber. Qin Yining removed the stolen bone from Shi Yi, and his mother killed herself when threatened with being crippled. His Double Pupils then released light that nourished his wounded body 6 7.
The incident divided Martial King Manor between supporters of the Double Pupils and supporters of the Supreme Bone, which had subsequently been grafted into Shi Zhao. Shi Yi and Shi Zhao remained apart for more than a year, both because of their strained relationship and because others restricted their meetings 7 8 13.
Reconciliation and Divine Mountain Training
Before Shi Yi’s departure for the Primordial Divine Mountain, Shi Zhao confronted him about his involvement. He admitted resenting the attention she gave Shi Hao and questioned whether she would believe his innocence. Rather than striking him, she apologized for overlooking his feelings and failing to trust him 13.
Despite the hostile appearance of their public parting, Shi Yi privately joined her in the Void God Realm. He explained that his mother had acted behind his back, that he had resisted, and that the conspirators had drugged him unconscious. He nevertheless accepted responsibility for any remaining karmic debt because the crime had been committed for his benefit 14.
Shi Yi offered to fight Shi Zhao in ten years if she wanted justice for Shi Hao. She declined to settle the matter on his behalf, saying that the two boys would have to resolve their own karma. Shi Yi later trained at the Primordial Divine Mountain 14 24.
Void God Realm Debut
At eight or nine, Shi Yi’s debut attracted crowds and established his reputation throughout the Stone Kingdom and Void God Realm. Martial King Manor and Rain Clan members helped lure beast kings toward him during his record challenge 39.
Shi Zhao attended in disguise and distracted him with shouted encouragement. Recognizing her briefly left him vulnerable to a beast’s attack; he then searched for her before Shi Yuan recalled him to finish the challenge. Shi Yi unleashed Double Pupils Heaven-Opening and killed nine beast kings, earning a record and reward 39 40.
| Challenge | Result |
|---|---|
| Physical-strength leap | Broke a record by leaping into the sky without relying on anything but physical strength 39. |
| Most beast kings slain in the Initial Land | Set the record with nine kills in a single battle 40. |
| Speed record | Found that the record had already been broken before his attempt 40. |
| Long-distance running | Failed to surpass Shi Zhao’s record 40. |
News of his achievements reached even the frontier. However, Shi Zhao’s anonymous record-breaking feats on the same day drew comparable attention, frustrating supporters who had planned to build momentum around his debut 41.
Later conversations in the Imperial Capital reported that Shi Yi had returned from the Primordial Divine Mountain and that Martial King Manor and the Rain Clan were helping him search for someone connected to the earlier record-breaking event. Fourth Grandfather remained concerned that an eventual confrontation between Shi Yi and Shi Hao would leave Shi Zhao caught between them 47 48.
Appearance
- Double Pupils: Two pupils in each eye, with divine light visible within them from infancy 1.
- Ocular manifestations: His eyes display flickering runes, sword-like beams, and an abyssal depth when their power is invoked 5 13.
- Bearing: Even as a young child, he presents a cold, composed expression and a majesty at odds with his age 4 13.
Personality
Shi Yi matures early and prefers cultivation to playing with children his own age. Proud and unwilling to concede defeat, he treats Shi Zhao’s superior strength as a goal to overcome rather than a reason to abandon his ambitions. Her ordinary, teasing treatment of him provides a bond absent from the reverence and calculation surrounding him elsewhere in the manor 3.
His reserve conceals a strong attachment to Shi Zhao. He becomes jealous when she devotes herself to Shi Hao, but responds to her reassurance and later admits how deeply her distrust hurt him. He also recognizes the self-interest of his clan protectors, concluding after his mother’s death and his father’s prolonged absence that they are using one another rather than sharing genuine affection 4 5 13 14.
Although uninvolved in the Supreme Bone theft, Shi Yi refuses to dismiss its consequences as entirely someone else’s responsibility. He acknowledges his mother’s wrongdoing while accepting the karmic burden of a crime committed for him 14.
Abilities & Skills
Double Pupils
An innate ocular trait associated with the divine beings of antiquity. His eyes perceive the Dao and principles woven through the world with exceptional clarity 1 13.
- Formation perception: Sees through formation markings protecting the manor’s spiritual pool 3.
- Internal perception: Detects something extraordinary within Shi Hao’s body 5.
- Offensive beams: Releases dazzling, sword-like rays formed from runes; Shi Zhao shatters them with her palm 5.
- Intimidating gaze: Causes a spectator to collapse, bleed from the mouth, and retain a lasting impression of terror 40.
- Bodily nourishment: Releases light that wraps around him like a cocoon after the Supreme Bone is removed 7.
- Limits: His undeveloped eyes cannot see through Shi Zhao’s hidden primordial-spirit transformation. Shi Zhao also cautions that perceiving the Dao does not mean understanding the human heart 1 13.
Double Pupils Heaven-Opening
A combat technique that releases overwhelming runic light, capable of collapsing mountains and shattering the earth within the Initial Land’s power restrictions 40.
- Kills nine beast kings in a single battle 40.

- Shi Yuan — Great-grandfather, ranked fifth in his generation. Promotes Shi Yi’s superiority, protects him during Shi Ziling’s retaliation, and oversees his later record challenge 4 6 7 40.
