Everything had settled into a routine. Yanbai had grown so used to working that being idle made him uncomfortable.
But if he kept pushing himself harder, he would make Konoha and the Land of Fire even more competitive.
Now that Jiraiya had found him this task, Yanbai thought it sounded quite interesting.
Gradually, some plot characters would start appearing at the Konoha Ninja Academy. Wouldn't that be interesting?
In fact, Yanbai now finished processing a mountain of files within half an hour of arriving at work each morning. Even urgent matters from elsewhere took time to reach him.
Thanks to this efficiency, Yanbai spent most of every day leisurely drinking tea. He had so much free time that he could even go out for a stroll.
Sometimes, out of sheer boredom, Yanbai would send the Anbu to the vegetable market to buy some pumpkin shoots, then sit behind his desk stripping them for fun.
Once he had stripped the fibers off the pumpkin shoots, Yanbai would use the cookware in his office to make soup. Whatever he couldn't finish, he shared with the people in nearby offices.
Only after working alongside Yanbai did the people in the Hokage Building discover that so many strange plants could be eaten as vegetables-and that they tasted pretty good...
By setting an example himself, Yanbai gradually spread these ways of eating to the Konoha shinobi around him.
They, in turn, passed them on to their families.
Their families began buying these vegetables, and as supply responded to demand, the variety of vegetables sold in Konoha's markets kept growing.
Before long, these ways of preparing food spread to snack shops and restaurants.
After traveling merchants and workers tried them, they became Konoha specialties.
Then... other parts of the Land of Fire began demanding them too.
