Su Bai returned to his dorm, sat on his bed, and began studying his system.
"Miss System, what exactly can you do?"
[This is a randomization system. It can randomize the host's Pokémon, items, skills, and more once per day.] [After every hundred randomizations, the host will receive one Chosen Lucky One randomization.] [Note: completing missions, triggering special storylines, and other methods can increase the accumulated randomization count, unlocking a Chosen Lucky One randomization early.] [Current randomization count: (0/100). Please randomize often, host. My fate lies with heaven, not with me.]
Su Bai sat on his bed, thinking quietly for a long time. A randomization system was highly unpredictable, but that also meant its potential was unimaginable.
What was more, every hundred randomizations would earn him one Chosen Lucky One randomization.
Su Bai knew how powerful a Chosen Lucky One randomization could be. His Pikachu was already on par with a Legendary Pokémon.
"System, what happens if my Pokémon evolves?"
[Ding! Host, evolution is also randomized. If your Pikachu uses a Thunder Stone to evolve into Raichu, it could become very strong or very weak. However, using a Chosen Lucky One randomization during evolution is recommended.]
Su Bai nodded. That settled his biggest concern.
As he was thinking, Su Bai's roommates returned from their meal one after another.
The three roommates had agreed beforehand not to say a single unnecessary word to Su Bai.
It was not that Su Bai was unpopular. Rather, the three of them had often mocked him for being a useless failure. Now, he had suddenly become the only prodigy this year to defeat a teacher.
The reversal was too much for them to accept.
"Let's go, Pikachu."
"Pika-pi!"
Pikachu cried out and happily climbed onto Su Bai's shoulder.
If they wanted to ignore him, Su Bai was happy to enjoy the peace. He packed his luggage, clipped Pikachu's Pokémon Ball to his waist, and left the dorm.
The finals were over, and Su Bai did not need to take any makeup exams, so he headed straight home.
On his way to the campus gate, Su Bai opened the Dragon Studies Network.
J University's Pokémon Department tracked both credits and failed courses. Failing too many courses would cost students their diploma, but having too few credits would also prevent them from graduating.
Failing a course also deducted the corresponding credits.
Su Bai had failed nine courses in total, each costing him twenty credits, leaving his current credit total at negative 180.
According to the rules, Pokémon Department students had to earn 200 credits before graduation to receive their diploma.
Su Bai gave a helpless, wry smile and rubbed his forehead. It seemed he had a long, hard road ahead if he wanted to graduate.
Yet Su Bai could not simply give up on that diploma.
The Dragon Nation's population was simply too large, so its regulations required anyone who wanted to become a professional Trainer to hold at least a bachelor's degree from a Pokémon Department.
Only professional Trainers were entitled to raise more than two Pokémon.
Ordinary people could raise no more than two Pokémon as pets or to help with daily life, and those Pokémon could not carry dangerous items.
Unless, of course, someone was confident enough to challenge Gyms with just two Pokémon and place in the top four or higher in the annual League tournament. That would also earn them official Trainer status.
[Ding! A change in the host's circumstances has been detected. Long-term mission issued: Redemption of the Failing Student. Please earn the required credits within two years. Current progress: (0/380).] [Mission reward: each credit earned will add one to the accumulated randomization count, unlocking a Chosen Lucky One randomization early. Please randomize often, host. My fate lies with heaven, not with me.]
Su Bai inwardly praised the system for being so considerate. He could earn credits and randomizations at the same time.
As he was thinking, his phone suddenly rang.
"Hello? Uncle Qi?"
"You little brat, call me President when you're at school. I heard you beat your examiner. What's this? Finally turned over a new leaf?"
The caller was Qi Shijun, the president of J University and one of the Dragon Nation's Elite Four. He was also a close friend of Su Bai's father and had looked after Su Bai a great deal over the past few years.
Su Bai's repeated failures over the years had worried Qi Shijun to no end. He had considered helping, but the Dragon Nation was extremely strict about training Pokémon Department students. Exam results were uploaded to the Dragon Studies Network on the spot, and examiners were never teachers from the students' own university. Even Qi Shijun could do nothing about it.
Now that Su Bai had finally improved, Qi Shijun was pleased.
Su Bai, however, wondered how Qi Shijun knew he had won. He had not seen him anywhere during the exam.
"Uncle Qi, how did you know I beat the examiner?"
"Your department director, Li Rui, told me. She watched not just your battle, but every battle in your class."
"Big Sis Li?"
Director Li was young, warm and approachable with her students, and full of energy, so that was what everyone called her in private.
"Why did Big Sis Li-no, Director Li-come to watch our battles?"
"Don't worry about that. You'll find out when the new semester starts. Study hard, kid. You only got your place in the Pokémon Department because your parents died in the line of duty. You need to treasure it."
"Don't worry, Uncle Qi. I definitely will. What did you need me for?"
Fortunately, the original owner's speech and habits were very similar to Su Bai's. With the original owner's memories as well, Su Bai gave Qi Shijun no reason to suspect anything.
"I heard you did well on your exam, so I thought I'd reward you. Want a wife?"
"Want a what?"
Su Bai froze.
Qi Shijun then explained that when Su Bai's father had gone to the Sinnoh Region on a study trip, he had arranged a childhood betrothal for Su Bai. The girl had just arrived from Sinnoh, so Su Bai needed to meet her.
"No!"
Su Bai shook his head even as he spoke into the phone.
This world had not only Pokémon, but also characters and regions from the original anime. As someone who had transmigrated here, Su Bai certainly was not going to marry just any girl.
"Uncle Qi, there's only one girl in Sinnoh I'm interested in: the Sinnoh Champion, Cynthia. I have no interest in anyone else."
The other end of the line fell silent for over ten seconds before Qi Shijun's laughter came through.
"Heh, is that so? Never mind, then. I have an exhibition match this afternoon. I don't have time to fuss over you."
"You have an exhibition match, Uncle Qi? Can I come watch?"
"Relax. You think I'd forget you, kid?"
Qi Shijun told Bai Yi that his opponent in that afternoon's exhibition match was Lucian, the newest member of Sinnoh's Elite Four.
To think Lucian had only just joined the Elite Four at this point.
Looking at the QR code Qi Shijun had sent him, Su Bai suddenly had an idea.
"System, I haven't used today's randomization yet, right? Can I randomize this QR code?"
[Ding! Randomizable item obtained by the host detected: VIP admission QR code for an Elite Four exhibition match.] [Note: if the host randomizes this item, the system will eliminate every possibility of the host attending the match in person, including but not limited to a meteor falling from the sky and destroying the stadium.]
"Then forget it."
Su Bai had wanted to exploit a loophole: after the system randomized the QR code, he could simply ask Qi Shijun to send him a new one. Clearly, that was not going to work.
"System, do I have anything worth randomizing right now?"
[Ding! The host's currently randomizable skills have been detected: God-Level Slack Off (mastered), God-Level Bragging (mastered), God-Level Shamelessness (mastered), Dragon Country Cooking (proficient). Randomize?] [Ding! The host's Held Items have been detected: one luggage backpack, one mobile phone, one set of clothes. Randomize?]
"I choose to randomize my skills!"
Those skills were hardly useful anyway. He might as well randomize them first.
[Ding! Congratulations, host. Randomization complete. The host's current skills: Sinnoh language (mastered), ancient scripts (mastered), dessert making (mastered).] [Current randomization count: (1/100). Please randomize often, host. My fate lies with heaven, not with me.]
Then Su Bai felt a wealth of new knowledge appear in his mind: all kinds of Sinnoh language grammar, numerous ancient scripts, and recipes for quite a few desserts.
Four skills had become three, but they were considerably more worthwhile. Though he had no immediate use for them, they were better than nothing.
"Pikachu, I'll take you to see a battle between truly powerful Trainers."
After saying that, Su Bai nuzzled Pikachu on his shoulder, left through the campus gate, and took a taxi to the City Sports Field.
The City Sports Field was already packed with spectators and security personnel, but with the QR code Qi Shijun had sent him, Su Bai entered through the VIP passage without trouble and reached Viewing Lounge One.
Viewing Lounge One offered the best view and was generally reserved for the competing Trainers' friends and family.
When Su Bai entered the lounge, he found someone already there.
And Su Bai recognized her. It was the Sinnoh Champion, Cynthia!
