When Wang Dalin saw Su Bai looking his way, he hurried over.
Su Bai noticed that the notebook was no longer in his hands. He had clearly given it away.
"Well? Did it work?"
"Bai, you're amazing! I really didn't know greatness when I saw it. From now on, you're my best buddy."
Wang Dalin excitedly told Su Bai how he had successfully struck up a conversation with the senior girls.
Thanks to his earlier performance, Su Bai's popularity among the fourth-year girls had soared.
Wang Dalin had introduced himself as Su Bai's good friend. With the notebook he claimed to have written himself and the expert knowledge about Unown that Su Bai had taught him, Wang Dalin, whose looks were reasonably decent to begin with, had actually caught the interest of several senior girls.
Wang Dalin had picked the absolute stunner among them and given her the notebook.
"Bro, I've got to thank you properly. How about I buy you dinner?"
"No need for dinner, but..."
Su Bai grinned, making Wang Dalin shudder.
At Su Bai's insistence, the two went to the battle court for a Pokémon battle.
"Su Bai, buddy, can we skip the battle? I know a great barbecue place. My treat."
"No. We're battling. Otherwise, don't come to me when the senior girls ask you questions."
Su Bai had Wang Dalin right where he wanted him and insisted on battling him.
With no other choice, Wang Dalin sent out his first Pokémon.
It was a yellow Drowzee with innocent eyes.
Sure enough, people said Pokémon resembled their owners, and Trainers caught Pokémon that resembled themselves.
"Drowzee, use Hypnosis!"
"Thunderbolt!"
Pikachu knocked out Wang Dalin's Drowzee with a single Thunderbolt.
As Wang Dalin recalled Drowzee, Su Bai urged him to send out his second Pokémon.
He was going to crush Wang Dalin's entire team today. How dare he fantasize about Su Bai's Cynthia?
If the brat hadn't stopped short of saying anything too outrageous, Su Bai would have sent Gengar to scare him at night and make him dream of being molested by dozens of Jynx, leaving him unable to get it up for the rest of his life.
"Bai, buddy! Do I really have to send out my second Pokémon? I'm begging you."
"No getting out of it! Otherwise, don't expect my help picking up girls ever again!"
Seeing that Su Bai wouldn't budge, Wang Dalin sent out his second Pokémon with a miserable look.
It was a cracked white eggshell covered in red and blue patterns.
The top of the shell opened like flower petals, and a Pokémon with the smile of a little angel woke up.
"Toge-priii~"
Togepi! That lecher Wang Dalin's second Pokémon was actually a Togepi.
Wang Dalin was on the verge of tears. He had let Togepi down. It was still so little, yet it was about to take a Thunderbolt.
"Togepi, I'm so sorry."
"Fine, forget it! Let's get barbecue. But you're paying!"
Su Bai really couldn't bring himself to hurt such a tiny cutie. Besides, Togepi was a Pokémon with Serene Grace, and his random draws depended on luck. He certainly didn't want to hurt such an adorable Togepi.
Maybe befriending this Togepi would even bring him a little luck.
The moment Wang Dalin heard that Togepi wouldn't get beaten up, he picked it up and rubbed his cheek against it.
Although Togepi didn't know why its Trainer was suddenly so excited, it was delighted by the affection from the Trainer it loved.
The two left campus and went to a nearby barbecue restaurant. With a grand wave of his hand, Wang Dalin told Su Bai to eat whatever he wanted.
To show his sincerity, Wang Dalin even booked a private room.
Togepi happily hopped around on the sofa, jumping onto Growlithe one moment and down to the floor the next.
That kept Pikachu busy. With Togepi refusing to sit still, Pikachu could only run back and forth to keep it safe.
Even if Pikachu failed to catch it, Togepi wouldn't get hurt in a fall. Gengar was there too.
"Out with it. You specifically waited for me, and now you're being so generous with the skewers. What do you really want?"
Su Bai didn't believe Wang Dalin was being so attentive just to pick up girls.
Wang Dalin rubbed his hands together and chuckled.
"Su Bai, did you know that after we're assigned to our classes, we'll be assigned dorm rooms before this weekend?"
"Yeah. What's your point?"
"I want to room with you."
Third-year students in J University's Pokémon Department received excellent treatment. Their four-person rooms became two-person rooms, and the dorm rooms were larger, making it easier to care for their Pokémon.
They could even choose their own roommates.
Wang Dalin had decided to become Su Bai's roommate the moment he met him.
Students majoring in battling generally liked to room with or date students majoring in breeding, so their Pokémon could receive better care.
Likewise, students majoring in breeding liked to date or room with students majoring in battling.
It was like how doctors needed to see more patients to become more skilled and experienced.
Breeding students could only develop solid skills by caring for more Pokémon.
How could they tell whether their care had made a Pokémon stronger? Battles were the best way to demonstrate it.
It was a win-win situation.
Besides, Su Bai's victory in the Health Cup was enough to prove that he was quite capable at both battling and breeding.
Now Su Bai could even help Wang Dalin pursue the senior girls.
So Wang Dalin had made up his mind. He couldn't let Su Bai get away.
Su Bai chuckled when he heard what Wang Dalin wanted.
"Those are certainly compelling reasons, but sorry, I'm living off campus."
"That's fine. Students living off campus still get their own dorm rooms. Su Bai, I still want to room with you. It'd be great if you came back to stay, but if you didn't, wouldn't having the room to myself be even more convenient?"
Wang Dalin grew positively excited.
If you don't stay there, I can bring my girlfriend back to the room at night. Wouldn't that save me a fortune?
"All right. I'll agree."
Su Bai sighed helplessly. Although he wouldn't stay in the dorm because of his system's secret, he did have to consider the question of a roommate.
After all, the arrangement would last two years. Before graduating in his fourth year, he would have to stay on campus to put his thesis together. Having a roommate he got along with wouldn't be bad.
Wang Dalin was pretty much his kind of guy, and he even had a Togepi.
Right, speaking of Togepi...
Su Bai picked Togepi up.
Wang Dalin's Togepi wasn't shy around strangers. It had enjoyed playing with Pikachu and the others earlier, and since Su Bai smelled of Pikachu, Togepi was friendly toward him too.
Nuzzling Togepi, Su Bai silently called out in his mind.
System, activate today's random draw! Exchange this bottle of cola.
Su Bai immediately redeemed his random draw for the day.
[Ding! Congratulations, host! Your incredible luck has earned you a rare random item: Z-Ring.]
He sucked in a sharp breath!
Holding Togepi, Su Bai looked at the Z-Ring that had suddenly appeared on his left wrist, hidden beneath his sleeve, and began considering staying in the dorm every day.
