Appearance
- Double Pupils: Each eye contains two nested pupils, one large and one small. Mysterious runes revolve within them when he activates their power 22 42.
- Divine radiance: His introductory cultivation scene depicts him floating cross-legged amid golden light, with ten brilliant Cave Heavens behind him 22.
- Bearing: He stands upright “as a pine” when confronting Li Dao in the training grounds 44.
Personality
Shi Yi is aloof and intensely confident in his innate gifts. He initially dismisses Li Dao as an ignorant brat and considers himself the uncrowned king among his lower-realm peers. His ambition extends beyond defeating nearby geniuses: he seeks invincibility throughout heaven and earth 22.
His pride does not prevent him from recognizing a genuine threat. During their duel, he abandons his contempt for Li Dao and acknowledges him as a formidable opponent. He welcomes the challenge as something that makes the pursuit of the Great Dao less dull, but remains convinced that fully mastering his Double Pupils will place him above the geniuses of the Eight Regions 44 45 47.
Abilities & Skills
Double Pupils
His signature innate gift provides exceptional insight into Daoist arts alongside offensive and restraining abilities 42 44 45.
- Probing sight: Attempts to examine Li Dao’s hidden powers, but is blocked by Li Dao’s Dao Seed, bodily Dao patterns, and surrounding Dao aura 42.
- Technique analysis: Studies the Law-Suppressing Stele through rapidly moving divine patterns in his eyes 45.
- “Strangulation”: Manifests an enormous pupil that fires an ink-black beam carrying an aura of death. Li Dao’s Yin-Yang Flood Dragons block it, though they emerge battered and bleeding 44 45.
- Rune confinement: Binds the Yin-Yang Flood Dragons in a contracting golden rune cage. Li Dao breaks the restraint with the Law-Suppressing Stele 45.
- Limits: Law suppression slows his divine power and weakens his arts. He has not yet fully mastered the Double Pupils’ mysteries, and does not unleash their deeper powers during the duel 44 45 47.
Supreme Bone
Shi Yi possesses a Supreme Bone and regards it as a basis for challenging Li Dao’s exceptional physique 22 44.
Qilin Step
A movement and attack technique that produces a colossal Qilin phantom and crushing hoof strikes 44.
- Allows him to cross into the arena almost instantly, his figure dissolving into green smoke 44.
- Breaks the Law-Suppressing Stele’s hold over the Martial King Manor disciples 44.
- Repeated strikes crack Li Dao’s Black-and-Yellow Furnace and split the Black-Gold Dao Platform, but leave Li Dao himself uninjured 44.
Bian Treasure Art
Summons a mountain-sized, tigerlike beast covered in golden fur 45.
- Shields Shi Yi from the approaching Yin-Yang Flood Dragons 45.
- Fights the dragons without either side gaining the upper hand; their clashes destroy the remaining half of the training ground 45.
Equipment / Items
- Jade-like precious bone — Holds and contemplates a translucent white precious bone during his introductory cultivation scene 22.
Relationships
- Li Dao — Rival. Shi Yi progresses from dismissing his exploits to recognizing his combat strength after an unresolved duel. He anticipates another encounter 22 28 45 46 47.
- Shi Li — Manor elder whom Shi Yi addresses as “Grandpa Li.” He encourages Shi Yi to destroy Li Dao’s Dao heart and later arranges to draw hostile factions toward Li Dao 41 42 47.
- Yu Kuan — Maternal grandfather and Rain Clan Grand Elder. Orders an ambush against Li Dao because he will not tolerate a threat to Shi Yi’s position 49.
- Xia Youyu — Heaven Mending Pavilion representative who visits Martial King Manor to invite him. She condemns the manor’s treatment of her delegation 39 41 42.
- Shi Hao — Challenger to his Void God Realm records. Breaks several of them in succession, drawing Martial King Manor’s attention 47 48.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Void God Realm Rivalry
Shi Yi initially ignores reports of Li Dao’s raid on the Rain Clan. After Li Dao’s mass-killing record brings the two into public comparison, Shi Yi becomes interested in testing the boy against his spear. He subsequently wipes out more than a dozen minor clans and breaks Li Dao’s record, according to Lord Bird and Grandpa Jingbi 22 28 35.
Martial King Manor Duel
The Heaven Mending Pavilion delegation’s visit brings Shi Yi face-to-face with a disguised Li Dao. His failed attempt to probe Li Dao prompts Shi Li to identify the visitor as a potential obstacle to Shi Yi’s rise. Although displeased by his clansmen’s interference, Shi Yi accepts Shi Li’s instruction to undermine Li Dao’s conviction rather than provoke an open conflict with the Pavilion 41 42.
After Li Dao suppresses the manor’s disciples, Shi Yi enters the arena and frees them with the Qilin Step. Their subsequent exchange of Double Pupils abilities, suppression arts, and summoned beasts destroys the training ground. Three elders halt the fight without a decisive winner; Shi Yi recognizes Li Dao as his most troublesome opponent to that point 43 44 45 46.
Aftermath and Record Challenges
Shi Yi returns to studying Daoist arts, having benefited considerably from the duel. Meanwhile, Shi Li schemes against Li Dao, and Shi Hao begins breaking Shi Yi’s records before raiding Martial King Manor’s Void God Realm treasury. No direct confrontation between Shi Yi and Shi Hao is shown in these chapters 47 48 50.
