Too direct!
There was nothing flashy about Lin Fan's attacks. Simple and brutal, he charged straight in and broke through his enemies with sheer strength.
No one would have imagined that, without even unleashing an offensive Precious Art, he could shatter a pureblood beast cub's skull with a single punch. His valor was unmatched!
"Ah..."
Little Pixiu roared hoarsely. Blood blossomed from the wound between its brows, and cracks covered the lone horn atop its head. It staggered, trying to rise, but there was no turning the tide. It collapsed to the ground, barely clinging to life.
"All done... looks like today's another even-numbered day. Heh heh..." Lin Fan muttered. Glancing at the darkening sky, he smiled knowingly. His favorite time was coming around again.
He hardly spared a thought for the battle he had just fought. It had already become part of his mandatory training, something he had never missed for a single day through winter's cold and summer's heat.
Lin Fan stepped forward, about to head to the Tribulation-Transcending Divine Lotus Pool for a soak, when Qi Daolin stopped him. "Wait. Didn't I give you the Primordial Rune Bone? Why haven't I seen you attack with any Precious Arts? You keep fighting with nothing but your body!"
He froze, his raised foot suspended in midair. His expression changed slightly as he glanced down at his chest, looking as though he had troubles he could hardly put into words.
"Could you not learn them? That shouldn't be possible. I gave you simple Precious Arts from remnant beasts, nothing particularly profound or complicated. There's no way you couldn't learn even one. Or did you never bother studying them at all?" Qi Daolin asked, utterly puzzled.
Though he would not claim this disciple's talent was peerless and rare beyond compare, it was still top-tier. Even among the First Generation, he ranked near the front. There was no way he could fail to learn ordinary Precious Arts and divine abilities.
Besides, these were not heavenly-tier arts or Precious Arts of the Ten Fiends. Everything he had given Lin Fan was something he could learn at his current cultivation level.
A tower ten thousand feet tall rose from level ground. Qi Daolin had not encouraged Lin Fan to reach beyond his grasp; he had started him with the very basics.
For he himself understood the meaning of "the great Dao is simplicity itself."
Every Precious Art contained profound truths of the great Dao. Only by progressing from the simple to the profound could one comprehend deeper layers of the Dao.
Finally, Lin Fan spoke with some embarrassment. "Actually... I did learn them. It's just... they come out a little differently when I use them."
"Oh? Differently how?" Qi Daolin asked.
"Dao Master, see for yourself!"
With that, Lin Fan's entire body shone. Runes appeared one after another, and fierce flames blazed around him. A fiery-red divine bird emerged with a low cry, spreading its wings and soaring behind his back.
This was the Precious Art of a Fire Cloud Sparrow remnant beast. It was neither particularly powerful nor profound, and could not compare with those of the strongest races. Its advantage lay in being easy to learn, while containing a trace of the profound truths of fire-path divine abilities.
Boom!
The Fire Cloud Sparrow spat a dazzling stream of divine fire from its beak, sending it hurtling toward Little Pixiu, who lay on the ground.
In the blink of an eye, the divine fire engulfed Little Pixiu, forming a fiercely burning mass of flames.
Yet, astonishingly, after being bathed in that brilliant blaze, Little Pixiu was neither cooked nor reduced to ashes as expected.
Instead, the divine fire seemed to possess a life of its own, actually beginning to heal Little Pixiu's external wounds!
Under the effects of the divine fire, the caved-in brow that had been streaming blood miraculously returned to its original state, without the slightest trace of damage.
"Awoo..."
Little Pixiu let out a roar. It had thought it was about to die, only to recover completely. Bewilderment filled it. What had happened?
But the moment it rose, another fist struck its forehead. The blow crashed down like a mountain pressing upon it, knocking it unconscious.
"When I use a Precious Art, all it does in the end is heal. It doesn't deal any damage!" Lin Fan spread his hands helplessly.
He had actually learned the Precious Arts long ago, but no matter how he unleashed them, they had only one effect-healing.
At first, he had assumed it was an isolated case, that something had gone wrong while he was learning. But after studying a few more minor Precious Arts, he discovered otherwise. They were all the same.
That was also why he never used Precious Arts against his enemies. Not only were they useless, they would strengthen his opponents. It was pure "healer" behavior.
"To think such an anomaly could exist!" Qi Daolin could not remain calm. This was the first time he had encountered anything like it; it had never happened before.
He approached Lin Fan and examined him with painstaking care.
This was no small matter. A cultivator without offensive power would suffer badly. If the problem could not be resolved, he would be doomed to serve only as support, hiding behind others for protection.
Clearly, such cultivators would have to depend on others in the future, and would find it difficult to accomplish much.
"Attack me. Unleash another Precious Art!" Qi Daolin instructed, a few suspicions forming in his mind.
Lin Fan raised his hand and unleashed a Precious Art. It flashed like a streak of light, divine radiance erupting and Runes falling like rain. It looked tremendously powerful.
Yet the Precious Art remained the same, carrying potent vitality without the slightest destructive force, as though it had been converted.
"As I thought, this is connected to your Supreme Bone. It has altered your magical power, leaving the attacks you release with nothing but healing effects."
Qi Daolin understood now, and found it quite novel. To think such an innate Divine Art existed! Rather than saying it changed the Precious Arts, it would be more accurate to say it assimilated them, bringing everything into one.
At that thought, Qi Daolin's eyes lit up. A bold idea vaguely took shape in his mind. If every Precious Art and divine ability in the world could be fused into a single whole, how powerful would that be?
Would it be any less powerful than the Supreme Hall's lost Six Paths of Reincarnation Heavenly Art?
One commanded all manner of Precious Arts; the other melted them into a single furnace, unifying ten thousand arts as one.
"Dao Master... Dao Master... can you fix it?" Lin Fan called softly, looking at the distracted Qi Daolin.
As a man brimming with passion who wanted to charge into battle, he had no wish to spend his entire life as a healer. That would be far too humiliating.
Having been given another life, how could he cower and cringe? He ought to roam freely across the world, beauties in both arms, living as he pleased, so that his arrival in this world would not be in vain.
"This is the first time I've seen anything like your case. I'll have to study it before I can say!" Qi Daolin replied. He did not dare make a rash judgment yet.
"All right, then. Sorry for the trouble, Dao Master. I'll go soak in the Tribulation-Transcending Divine Lotus Pool first." Lin Fan grabbed Little Pixiu by one hind hoof and dragged it away. The meat of a pureblood beast was tremendously nourishing; he could not let it go to waste.
"Hey, brat, I never see you this eager about training during the day, yet you're always rushing over there. You haven't even grown all your hair yet. Looking too much won't do you any good!" Qi Daolin admonished earnestly.
"Dao Master, what are you talking about? Divine medicine is something rarely seen in the entire world, and it's enormously beneficial for cultivation. Naturally, I should soak more often. Besides, weren't you the one who told me to go?"
Lin Fan retorted, shooting the old man a disdainful look. His own mind was impure, and he was always sneaking peeks, yet he had the nerve to criticize Lin Fan.
With a thump, Lin Fan cried out in pain and clutched his head.
"You unfilial disciple! You dare look down on your master? Get moving and cultivate! If you don't reach the hundred-thousand Extreme Realm within a year, just see how I deal with you!"
Qi Daolin unleashed a scolding barrage, asserting his authority as a master. Otherwise, he really would have had nowhere to hide his old face.
Lin Fan rolled his eyes at him and fled, cursing all the way. This was utterly outrageous-bullying a child! In his previous life, that would have earned the old man at least a few years eating government-funded prison meals.
