Background / History
Life with Ye Qingxian
Lin Fan’s body houses a soul from the twenty-first century, and he retains knowledge of the original story and its characters. Ye Qingxian privately identifies him as a former Holy Emperor who has begun cultivating anew and lost his memory; Lin Fan himself does not understand the origins of his unusually powerful body 6 9 14 25.
Ye Qingxian raised him in a secluded forest near the Border Pass. From barely over a year old, he had to look after himself, prepare her food, and serve her tea and water. His attempts to escape ended in punishment, leaving him suspicious even when she finally offered him permission to see the world 6.
His departure sent him through a dangerous spatial passage. Wind blades repeatedly injured him while his innate healing technique kept him alive, until he emerged over the Three Thousand Provinces 7 8.
Joining the Supreme Dao Arena
Qi Daolin found Lin Fan near the ruins of his declining lineage. Lin Fan concealed his actual circumstances behind a story about accidentally activating a village altar, then accepted Qi Daolin’s offer to teach him cultivation. Only after swearing an oath sealed with his blood did he learn that he had joined the Supreme Dao Arena 8.
Although dismayed by the lineage’s reputation and hostility with the Immortal Palace, Lin Fan recognized Qi Daolin’s willingness to protect his disciples. Qi Daolin healed him through a stolen baptism at the Heavenly Immortal Academy and subjected him to dangerous training against vicious beasts 9 11.
Lin Fan subsequently entered the academy alone to recover in its Divine Lotus Pool. His childlike appearance helped conceal his identity, and he maintained a girl’s disguise when another bather mistook him for one. His encounters with Feng Wu eventually led to a duel and a breakthrough 11 14 15.
Entering the Heaven Mending Sect
Qi Daolin sent Lin Fan to the Heaven Mending Sect to acquire its resources and teachings, particularly golden body liquid and the Heaven Mending Art. He also suggested separating the sect from the Immortal Palace and named defeating the Immortal Palace Successor as a future goal 18.
Lin Fan’s talent test produced phenomena strong enough to attract the sect master. He received standing equal to the Saintess, access to every Precious Art, and the promise of a dedicated protector. When Qing Yao offered to teach him, he chose her over the sect master 21 22.
Qing Yao housed him in her secluded world and supplied medicinal plants, spirit creatures, and training facilities. Lin Fan remained puzzled by her generosity and suspected she knew he had arrived to steal the sect’s teachings. Despite her earlier offer to let him leave the sect, he later lived under a restriction against leaving her residence before Spirit Transformation 22 25.
Yue Chan’s jealous ambush interrupted his isolation. After defeating her, he demanded her treasures as compensation. Their subsequent wagered duels repeatedly ended in his victory, supplying him with equipment and providing company during nearly three years of secluded cultivation 25 28 29 32 33.
Conflict in the Spirit World
Yue Chan hired Lin Fan to oppose Demoness in exchange for a World-Breaking Talisman. Their entry into the Spirit World first led to the Sikong Family’s residence in Qianfeng City, where Yue Chan wanted Sikong Ming punished for praising Demoness’s appearance over hers 35 36.
Lin Fan stormed the residence, destroyed its defenses with the Crimson Feather Fan, and defeated Sikong Ming using his fists and the family’s Bone Sword. He destroyed Sikong Ming’s spiritual form, warned the lineage against insulting Yue Chan, and publicly challenged Demoness on her behalf. He afterward collected the promised talisman 36 38 39.
Journey to the Lower Realm
After developing his Unique Cave Heaven, Lin Fan obtained Qing Yao’s permission to travel to the Lower Realm. His private objective was to reclaim the Supreme Lineage’s inheritance; Qing Yao equipped him with life-preserving treasures and entrusted him with Phoenix Blood for Yue Chan’s two bodies 43.
He then fabricated a childhood engagement with Yue Chan’s Secondary Body, who had not yet realized her own nature. Matching Divine Swords and a powerful Marriage Decree persuaded her and the Lower Realm sect elders to accept his claim. He took her to the Stone Kingdom in the Desolate Region 44.
In the imperial capital, Lin Fan sought a Great Wilderness map and information about the approaching Mountain Treasure. He rejected recruiting Shi Yi, revealing that the boy’s Supreme Bone had been taken from his younger cousin. At the auction, his Precious Mirror exposed a concealed image and a possible Dao-seed reference within an incomplete beast hide, which he became determined to obtain 45 47.
Lin Fan later rejected the Ninth Princess’s attempt to befriend him, dismissed Granny Xihua and Elder Yu, and traveled with Yue Chan to the Western Frontier. Elder Yu understood that traveling without them would give the pair privacy and protect their secrets 50.
Appearance
Lin Fan has a delicate, youthful appearance that contrasts sharply with his physical strength 9 12.
- Round, tender cheeks: His appearance repeatedly invites cheek-pinching, particularly from Feng Wu 8 14.
- Fair, jade-like skin: His first Divine Lotus Pool baptism leaves him resembling a finely crafted porcelain doll 9.
- Easily mistaken for a girl: He exploits this resemblance to conceal his identity at the Heavenly Immortal Academy 11 15.
- Black hair and clear eyes: Described after his internal-passage breakthroughs 42.
- Older-looking physique by nine: At approximately nine, he looks closer to a ten-year-old, with more resolute features 33.
Personality
Lin Fan is a practiced actor who uses childish innocence, tears, flattery, and half-truths to conceal his intentions. Years with Ye Qingxian teach him to remain cautious, read others’ reactions, and say what powerful people want to hear 6 8 21.
He is openly acquisitive and mischievous. He demands stakes before fighting Yue Chan, treats her as a continuing source of treasures, and refuses proxy battles until offered worthwhile payment. His teasing can be deliberately humiliating, including his invented engagement with her Secondary Body 29 32 33 35 44.
His pursuit of strength is nevertheless persistent. He repeatedly rises after painful defeats in training and accepts exhausting physical conditioning. Qing Yao’s warning teaches him to distinguish confidence from recklessness, while his long-term ambition is to forge his own Dao rather than merely copy the Desolate Heaven Emperor’s path 11 17 24 35.
Seclusion frustrates him: without modern entertainment or ordinary conversation, he compares his residence to a prison. He also shows genuine gratitude toward Qing Yao, offering her the precious Phoenix Blood she obtained for his baptism and acknowledging her support after his breakthrough 25 32 40 42.
Abilities & Skills
Supreme Bone and Life-Focused Supreme Technique
His innate Supreme Technique heals injuries and assimilates offensive rune abilities into vitality-filled healing arts 7 16 24.
- Rapid restoration: Can return him to peak condition if he still has a breath remaining, with a mana-restoring effect 16.
- Attack assimilation: Neutralizes offensive Precious Arts, demonstrated against Yue Chan’s Five-Colored Peacock 16 32.
- Physical nourishment: Repeated healing strengthens his flesh and contributes to his exceptional body tempering 24 38.
- Life stimulation: Its green radiance accelerates plant growth and draws spirit fish toward him 24.
- Offensive limitation: Also assimilates the offensive techniques he casts himself, turning them into healing arts 13 16.
- Exceptions and limits: Nonoffensive abilities retain their original properties. The technique cannot resurrect him or save him after his primordial spirit has perished 18 41.
Indestructible Golden Body and Physical Combat
Close combat is Lin Fan’s strongest fighting discipline, developed through daily battles with vicious beasts and extreme body tempering 15 16 38.
- Strength: Reaches 120,000 jin in one arm before entering Cave Heaven 23.
- Durability: Tempers himself through lightning, Heavenly Fire, extreme yang, and extreme yin 38.
- Technique: Uses decisive punches, kicks, sudden changes of position, and sustained pressure rather than elaborate offensive arts 15 26.
- Golden manifestation: Can intensify his power into a golden, godlike form during combat 26.
- Improvised attack names: Calls his barrages “Pegasus Meteor Fist” and “Eighteen Girl-Subduing Fists,” mixing names to mock and confuse Yue Chan 26.
Unique Life-and-Death Heavenly Passage
Lin Fan’s Unique Cave Heaven unifies twelve passages into a black-and-white Dao diagram, with the physical-body passage representing yang and the divine-soul passage representing yin 42.
- Domain formation: Produces a field capable of grinding down runes and magical treasures 43.
- Healing: Retains the Supreme Bone’s restorative capability 43.
- Rune destruction: Manifests as a hazy Divine Disc that erases the runes of an enclosing array 49.
- Unrealized potential: Lin Fan considers its possible evolution into an independent realm, but this has not occurred in the supplied chapters 43.
Heaven Mending Art
Lin Fan learns the Heaven Mending Sect’s foundational art and engraves its runes into a Heavenly Passage 24.
- Early proficiency: Initially understands only its threshold and cannot yet use it 24.
- Intended synergy: Recognizes its potential to reverse a battle and let him use his Supreme Bone twice in succession 18.
- Research limitation: His attempt to fuse two divine abilities into a higher Precious Art remains beyond his ability at that stage 31.
Rune Comprehension, Flight, and Deception
- Rune comprehension: Enters enlightenment during his first bone-text lesson; later studies Bone Scriptures and the Primordial True Explanation to investigate new cultivation methods 10 40.
- Rune-generated wings: Creates fiery-red wings to fly and reposition during his battle with Feng Wu 15.
- Undercover acting: Maintains false origin stories and a girl’s disguise while exploiting his innocent appearance 8 11 21.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Primordial True Explanation — Divine Guidance Chapter: Given by Qi Daolin; later used in researching and constructing his unconventional Heavenly Passages 18 40 42.
- Taotie Primordial True Bone: Supplied by Qi Daolin for studying the Taotie’s technique; receiving it does not establish mastery of the art 18.
- Academy infiltration tools: A black metal token, map, and magical treasure supplied by Qi Daolin facilitate his visits to the Heavenly Immortal Academy 11.
- Heaven and Earth Bag: A storage bag won from Yue Chan, carrying food, wine, and treasures 30 32.
- Crimson Feather Fan: Won from Yue Chan; releases lightning and scarlet fire with little divine-power expenditure. Burns a mountain to ash and helps break the Sikong Family’s arrays 32 36.

- Sikong Family Bone Sword: Seized and used against Sikong Ming during their Spirit World battle 38.

- Divine-gold identity medallion: Establishes his sect identity when Yue Chan’s maid fails to recognize him 43.

- Spatial Magical Artifact: Carries him and Yue Chan to the Stone Kingdom’s Western Frontier 50.
