Background / History
Qin Tian came from another world where the events of Shrouding the Heavens existed as fiction. His original life involved an orphanage and a truck accident. Reborn without his previous memories or a special constitution, he nevertheless showed cultivation aptitude and was taken into a small Grotto-Heaven by a master who treated him like his own child 1.
When Qin Tian was eight, bandits destroyed his sect to seize its Dao Scripture Life Spring Chapter. His master, friends, and family were killed. The shock awakened his previous-life memories, but he lost consciousness and was subsequently sold into a Northern Region Source mine controlled by the Yaoguang Holy Land 1 5.
An early escape attempt ended with three days and nights in a dark cell. Qin Tian then spent three years concealing his strength, accumulating Source, and testing a faith ritual intended to improve his aptitude. Although the ritual did not grant him a sacred physique, it greatly improved his fortune and provided the resources for his eventual escape 1 3 4.
Appearance
- During slavery: A dark-skinned youth with delicate facial features, coarse clothing, a hoe, and small, calloused hands 1 8.
- Hair: Black; described as glossy before being scorched in the Fire Domain 6 18.
- Eyes: Seem gentle and ordinary when their brilliance is restrained. When activated, they display silver-white and azure light, profound Dao resonance, and visions resembling a starfield 1 2 37.
- Double pupils: Acquired after passing the Other Shore trial 19.
- Later appearance: His transformations leave him far more handsome than the mining-era portrait on his wanted notices, making him difficult to recognize 36.
- Usual clothing: Eventually adopts Daoist robes because he considers himself Duan De’s disciple 44.
- Disguise: Can become a ruddy, unremarkable fat Daoist closely resembling Duan De 48.
Personality
Qin Tian combines conspicuous ambition with careful preparation. He wants revenge, longevity, adventure, and the opportunity to witness the universe’s far future. He rejects returning to a predictable previous life and sets himself the goal of attaining Supreme-level combat strength before the Dark Turmoil 2 19.
His confidence does not prevent retreat. He uses decoys rather than expose his real body, initially tries to avoid an unnecessary fight with Ji Haiyue, and abandons an expedition into the deepest Immortal Pool when his divine power cannot sustain the Emperor Weapon’s protection 16 20 41.
He is ruthless toward enemies and indifferent to many bystanders. He slowly burns the mine’s extortionists despite their pleas and uses victims’ souls, blood, and bones to sabotage the Sacred Formation. His attachment to the old miner who cared for him is a notable exception 12 13 14 15.
His humor frequently takes the form of taunts and self-serving justifications. He calls stealing Duan De’s Emperor Weapon an act of filial devotion, then uses Duan De’s identity to divert the consequences of another attack on Yaoguang 26 45 49 50.
Abilities & Skills
Temporal-Spatial Eyes
A trace of temporal-spatial light attached to Qin Tian’s soul during transmigration and manifested as divine eyes. They grant an innate, limited command of time and space, but their deficient origin essence prevents prolonged use and leaves many abilities inaccessible 2 34 41.
- Temporal-Spatial Realm: Creates concealed storage within a Sumeru Mustard Seed and the Flowing Light of Time. He uses it to hide ordinary, heterogeneous, and Divine Source 2.
- Future Sight: Observes possible futures to guide escape plans, anticipate attacks, and choose routes 6 14 20 21 32.
- Spatial perception and movement: Detects disturbances in the void and grants his footwork the ability to cross space. His early technique remains immature compared with the Ji Family’s inheritance 17 20 21.
- Past observation: Looks into others’ histories, including Ji Haiyue’s memories of scripture instruction and the past deeds of Azure Cloud Sect members 23 28 47.
- Temporal concealment: Hides in the void while placing his existence one second in the past. Detecting him becomes extremely difficult without understanding both time and space 25.
- Historical recovery: Draws Dao sounds from the past to recover sections of the Western Emperor Scripture 41.
- Power demands: Large feats can strain his eyes or require Divine Source as fuel 8 14 25.
Formation Dao
Qin Tian studies Cao Yusheng’s formation inheritance and develops exceptional skill through practice in the mine. His experience sensing earth veins becomes a foundation for both formations and elemental comprehension 10 18.
- Modifies the Spirit Gathering Formation to incorporate elemental transformations and offensive power 10.
- Learns to pass through the formation surrounding the Source Mine 10.
- Reverses the mine’s Sacred Formation from sealing and accumulating energy to releasing destructive power 14.
- Combines that formation with time-space laws to kill a Great Power while only at Divine Bridge cultivation 15.
- Uses the Fire Domain’s environment to trap stronger pursuers and turn its flames against them 17.
- Forms defensive structures, including a golden, pyramid-shaped shield against Ji Haoyue’s falling moon 34.
- Avoids drawing formations directly with spiritual sense after an attempt nearly drains his sea of consciousness; instead uses divine power and a physical medium 10.
Open Gate Method and Human Body Domain
Qin Tian develops a method of treating his body as a formation and directing energy into its closed gates of potential. Opening these gates releases pure radiance that strengthens his origin, physique, and divine power 31.
- His first skin-inscribed Spirit Gathering Formation consumes more energy than it gathers 12.
- The later Human Body Domain uses internal mountain-and-river Dao patterns to strengthen essence, qi, and spirit through ordinary circulation 31.
- Resonating his internal field with external earth veins boosts his power during combat 33 34.
- Allows his mortal physique to contend with Ji Haoyue’s Divine King Body, although his unaided physical strength initially remains inferior 33.
- Does not make him a complete Divine Body or Chaos Body. He later seeks a special constitution because his mortal physique still restricts his growth 46 48.
Kunpeng-Derived Techniques
Qin Tian uses his knowledge of how Huang created the cultivation system to interpret the Kunpeng’s transformations of life and death, yin and yang. This comprehension shapes his Life Spring breakthrough and the reconstruction of his Sea of Bitterness 5 30.
- Manifests golden Kunpeng wings behind a fist stance during his Life Spring breakthrough 5.
- Uses Kunpeng transformations to nourish his innate essence while rebuilding his foundation 30.
- Evolves yin-yang and life-death energies into a formation diagram that destroys Ji Haoyue’s descending moon 34.
- Studies Jade Pool stone carvings to understand how ordinary killing moves combine into far greater techniques 38.
Divine Spirit
A self-created secret art that analyzes the structure of primal energy and attempts to reverse attacks into their fundamental components 23.
- Developed during the battle with Ji Haiyue 23.
- Fails against Innate Grand Void Astral Energy, demonstrating that its initial form cannot unravel an emperor’s offensive technique 23.
- Qin Tian identifies a possible improvement: forcibly destroy key points in an attack’s divine-power structure rather than simply reverse its flow 23.
Emperor Scriptures and Killing Arts
- Void Ancient Scripture: Obtains instruction by observing Ji Haiyue’s past, then recreates the remembered lecture through a spiritual illusion to study it properly 23 28.
- Nine emperor characters: Uses characters from the beginning of the Void Scripture to construct a cage that seals space and freezes time while handling curse power at the Jade Pool 37.
- Western Emperor Scripture: Recovers its Sea of Bitterness, Four Extremes, and Dragon Transformation sections from past Dao sounds 41.
- Primordial Sacred Light Technique: Acquires this Quasi-Emperor technique among his spoils. It combines primal essence, divine power, and five-element energies for attack and defense; he has not mastered it when fighting Ji Haiyue 20 22.
- Wushi Technique: Previously learned from an image of the young Wushi; its applications are not detailed in the supplied account 47.
- Passing Years: Gains an emperor-level killing art from Wushi’s lingering imprint. Its Years Heavenly Blade cuts away lifespans 47.
Fortune Through Faith
Qin Tian uses prior-world knowledge to devise worship rituals for the Desolate Heaven Emperor, Shi Hao. As that emperor’s only believer in this realm, he shares a tiny portion of the fortune associated with him 3 4.
- Repeatedly discovers valuable Source and even Emperor Weapon material 1 4 8.
- Maintains his worship after escaping, hunting nursing beasts to offer their milk to Shi Hao’s tablet 41.
- The blessing improves luck rather than directly granting the special physique he originally wanted 4.
- Fortune does not automatically prevent Heavenly Diviners from locating him 32.
Paper Effigies and Disguises
- Deploys paper substitutes to draw attacks and mislead pursuers about his real location 16 32.
- Equips each effigy with teleportation platforms so that its escape attempts resemble those of a real cultivator 37.
- Changes his appearance through the circulation of five energies 48.
- Uses a disguised “mine slave” effigy to prompt his public declaration that he is Duan De 49.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Divine Mark Purple Gold formation artifact — Forged from a pagoda-tip fragment using purple immortal fire. Qin Tian creates three diagrams in the Fire Domain and a fourth after reaching the Other Shore; the planned themes are five elements, Four Symbols, yin-yang, and chaos 8 18 19.
- Shi Hao’s wooden tablet/plaque — Protects him through the Fire Domain’s first six layers and against sinister afflictions. Also used to club Duan De unconscious 18 26 27 41.
- Enlightenment Tea Tree paper — Calms his mind and accelerates comprehension while he plans and refines his formation artifact 18.
- Devouring Heaven Demon Lid — The lid of the Devouring Heaven Demon Jar, stolen from Duan De. An Extreme Dao Emperor Weapon whose power is severely constrained by Qin Tian’s cultivation and available energy 27 32 41.
- Phoenix-Winged Gilt Halberd/Trident — A Great Power weapon taken from the slain Yaoguang cultivator. Its Dao-and-principle structure makes activation costly; Qin Tian can initially use it only a few times 19 21.
- Treasure armor — A silk-like demonic-beast-hide garment with interwoven Dao and principle. Produces protective white light and wards off water and fire; Qin Tian values it above the halberd 19.
- Seven-Star Sword — A spirit-attuned treasure that draws stellar and solar energy to produce over a thousand sword-light attacks 21.
- Mutton-Fat White Jade Hairpin — Looted from the Yaoguang Great Power; destroyed while shielding him from Ji Haiyue’s Void Great Hand Seal 19 21.
- Profound Jade Platforms — Self-inscribed teleportation devices carried by Qin Tian and his paper effigies 16 37.
- Source reserves — Acquires approximately three million jin of Source from the mine owner’s Storage Bag. Later spends one hundred thousand jin to unleash a single burst of extreme Dao might 19 49.
Relationships
- Unnamed childhood master — Raised Qin Tian with parental affection; killed during the destruction of his sect 1.
- The old miner — Cared for Qin Tian during slavery. His death prompts Qin Tian to destroy the mine’s extortionists, although their responsibility is not proven 12 13.
- Shi Hao / Desolate Heaven Emperor — Object of Qin Tian’s faith and source of his enhanced fortune; Qin Tian continues offering beast milk after his escape 4 41.
- Cao Yusheng — Author of the formation inheritance that enables Qin Tian’s rapid development as a formation master 10 11.
- Duan De — Qin Tian’s self-appointed master, not a formally established teacher. Qin Tian steals his Demon Lid and impersonates him, while Duan De becomes furious over his loss 25 27 49 50.
- Ji Haiyue — Ji Family opponent who seeks Qin Tian’s Source. Their battle exposes Qin Tian’s lack of mastered killing arts and provides access to memories of the Void Ancient Scripture 20 22 23 28.
- Ji Haoyue — Divine King Body rival who comes after Qin Tian’s defeat of Ji Haiyue. Acknowledges Qin Tian’s strength during their battle; Qin Tian provocatively offers to make him a Divine General 32 33.
- Wushi — Encountered through historical imprints, from which Qin Tian learns the Wushi Technique and Passing Years 47.
- Yaoguang Holy Land — Former enslaver and persistent enemy. Hunts Qin Tian after the death of its Great Power; Qin Tian later targets its hidden Heaven-Swallowing lineage 15 17 48 50.
- The Great Bandits — Targets of Qin Tian’s longstanding revenge. One of the Thirteen Great Bandits was responsible for his sect’s destruction and sale into slavery 49.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Revolt and Escape from the Source Mine
Qin Tian abandons passive endurance after accumulating enough resources and confidence to defeat the mine’s Life Spring extortionist. He then studies formations, develops a route through the mine’s defenses, and chooses the scheduled closure and Vein Sealing as the opportunity for a public retaliation rather than a quiet escape 2 3 10 11.
After the old miner’s death, he traps and burns the extortion crew. Over three months, he secretly alters the Sacred Formation beneath the mine. When the Yaoguang Great Power activates it, Qin Tian ignites the Source Vein and uses the formation’s power to kill him. Paper effigies conceal his real body during the confrontation and escape 13 14 15 16.
Fire Domain Refuge and Reconstruction
A region-wide hunt drives Qin Tian into the Fire Domain. He traps pursuing disciples with formations, survives deeper flames through Shi Hao’s tablet, forges his diagrams, and reaches the Other Shore 17 18 19.
His clash with Ji Haiyue exposes weaknesses in his offensive inheritance. After obtaining access to Void Scripture instruction and stealing the Demon Lid from Duan De, Qin Tian rebuilds his Sea of Bitterness and develops the Open Gate Method. These changes let him meet Ji Haoyue’s Divine King Body in direct combat 22 23 27 28 30 31 33.
Jade Pool Ruins Cultivation
Qin Tian uses teleporting effigies to distract pursuers while heading toward the Jade Pool’s Immortal Pool, where he intends to turn its curse against his enemies. He subsequently studies the ruins’ stone carvings and enters the Dao Palace 37 38 40.
The ruins become his cultivation base. He recovers scripture sections from historical Dao sounds but withdraws from the tenth-layer Immortal Pool because he cannot sustain the Demon Lid against its imperial might. After two years of repeated breakthroughs and consolidation, he perfects all five Dao Palaces and leaves 41 43 44.
Pursuit of the Ruthless Inheritance
After fighting a Four Extremes cultivator, Qin Tian concludes that his mortal physique remains a serious limitation. He gains Passing Years from Wushi’s imprint, then resolves to obtain the Heaven-Swallowing Demon Art rather than stake his future solely on luck 46 47 48.
Disguised as Duan De, he approaches another Yaoguang mine and encounters Great Bandits attacking it. He uses the Demon Lid’s extreme Dao might and publicly claims Duan De’s identity. His scheme mobilizes Yaoguang and draws out the Ruthless lineage while leaving the real Duan De to bear the blame 48 49 50.
Notable Quotes
“The killer was none other than Qin Tian!” 15
“What of the Formation Dao? Any Dao I command is an invincible Dao!” 17
“Where my heart lies is my home. Where my heart lies is the Other Shore!” 19
Trivia
- Qin Tian jokingly calls Wang Teng “my son” when comparing their fortune; the phrase is not evidence of a familial relationship 1 8.
- His earliest artificial Chaos Body proposal involves converting different physiques into Dao patterns and combining them within his origin. He estimates that pursuing it would require at least Quasi-Emperor cultivation 12.
- He later wonders whether devouring solar and lunar sacred bodies could produce a Chaos Body, or whether a Desolate Ancient Sacred Body and an innate Dao embryo could produce an innate sacred body Dao embryo. Neither transformation is achieved in the supplied chapters 48.
- Yaoguang never actually abandons its hunt during his Jade Pool seclusion: four Heavenly Diviners die from lightning while attempting to locate him, leading Central Province diviners to blacklist the Holy Land 48.
