"That's news I just heard. Any thoughts?"
King Roy's words struck Lorne's heart like a heavy hammer.
To be honest, the moment he heard the news, he understood. "Ailment Maiden" Tracy had to be looking for him!
Then a strong sense of wariness surged through him. He instinctively glanced at King Roy, unsure why the man had told him this news or what he was after.
After all, that was ten thousand pounds! A fortune enough to tempt anyone. Could this genteel-looking fellow have been tempted too, and be using the news to test him?
After a brief moment of shock, Lorne quickly suppressed his turbulent emotions and put on a nonchalant, even slightly curious expression.
"Oh-something like that happened?"
"But it has nothing to do with me."
He shrugged and said casually, "Brando might be an uncommon surname, but it's perfectly normal for people to share a name. Besides, that wanted 'Brando' might even be using an alias."
"Really?" King Roy asked curiously.
Lorne pointed at himself, smiled, and said self-deprecatingly, "Of course. How could a rookie adventurer like me, who only just arrived, possibly be worth ten thousand pounds?"
Seeing how composed he was, King Roy nodded slightly, outwardly accepting the explanation.
"Hmm... perhaps."
Then he politely escorted Lorne to the door. Watching Lorne hurry away, King Roy inwardly breathed a sigh of relief.
With such a huge problem on his hands, he shouldn't have time to bother me again, right?
After getting far away from King Roy's home and turning into a deserted alley, Lorne pulled up his collar, instinctively concealing his face.
He took a coin from his pocket and tossed it into the air.
The coin spun through the air before landing on the back of his hand with a slap-heads up.
It was true!
