Having successfully stolen the Card of Blasphemy, Klein was not in particularly good shape.
At first, he had actually been in quite a good mood. Earlier that evening, Miss Justice had sent word that the bookmark in the exhibition hall really was unusual. It was very likely the disguised Card of Blasphemy mentioned in Roselle's Diary.
Unwilling to miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, he had decided to act immediately. Using Mr. Azik's Copper Whistle and the special properties of the gray fog, he had successfully infiltrated the Museum in spirit body form. Although he had alerted the guards, he had managed to steal the bookmark and escape without serious trouble.
Who could have imagined that, shortly after escaping, he would stumble straight onto the scene of a murder-and that the culprit would turn out to be an enormous Devil Dog!
"Grr!"
A low, threatening growl rose from the large black dog's throat.
Suddenly, its body began to swell rapidly, its muscles bulging and twisting. In the blink of an eye, it had become a terrifying monster two or three meters tall, charging at Klein with a gust of foul-smelling wind.
After using Paper Figurine Substitute and Phantom to evade several lethal attacks in succession, Klein decisively changed his strategy. Straining his throat, he shouted into the quiet night with every ounce of strength he had:
"Murder!"
"Help!"
"Murder!!!"
Those piercing cries for help instantly woke the residents of the entire street and carried clearly to the ears of the patrolling police officers.
This also forced the Devil Dog to temporarily abandon its pursuit of Klein and scramble to clean up the scene.
However, Klein had barely run any distance before he spotted a figure holding a revolver at the entrance to an alley ahead.
