"Why?" Leonard decided to play along with Klein's topic for now and gather more information in the process.

Neph herself had expressed her dislike of that name, but Leonard hadn't dared ask why at the time. He had simply assumed it was an alias.

"She..." Recalling the origins of that surname, Klein gave a meaningful smile. "Her surname isn't actually Dumbledore."

That answer was hardly unexpected. In fact, it would have been stranger if Neph Dumbledore were her real name. But Klein clearly meant something more, and Leonard caught on. "So her name really is Neph?"

He looked a little surprised. Klein nodded, and after a moment's thought, Leonard simply asked, "Then what is her real surname?"

That was a difficult question for Klein to answer. He had no intention of explaining the existence of another language here, nor did he intend to reveal Neph's real name for her. Thus, he answered, "You can think of her as having no surname."
