Fate's Gifts
Pea Vines hung silently down into the room, weaving together to form a dense forest path. Cattleya, however, did not notice anything unusual. She looked up and saw a figure on a hammock-like chair. The figure was wearing a girlish cake dress, a black, old-fashioned soft hat, and a pair of black leather boots. Fine-checked tulle covered most of her face.
This outfit looked rather strange, but Cattleya seemed unsurprised. She rose and bowed, saying:
Your Her Majesty the Queen.
This is Bernadette, Roselle's Eldest Daughter, the "Queen Mystic" of the Five Seas. She nodded slightly and asked in a calm but extremely fast voice:
"How about it?"
"I sent over a Crystal Ball that could contact me," Cattleya said, "But the Crystal Ball lost contact shortly after it changed hands."
"Where is the person who came to make the request?" Bernadette asked again.
"An insignificant nobody, he knows nothing," Cattleya shook her head. "The person who took the Crystal Ball possesses a strong ability to Anti-Divination. I don't know who that is, and neither does the person who gave the Crystal Ball."
Bernadette was silent for a few seconds before saying:
Go pick her up.
"Don't worry about Heath Doyle on your ship, I'll go with him."
A ghostly woman emerged from the air, glanced around, then turned to look at Klein, her gaze falling on his left hand, where a black human skin glove rested.
"This is ' Creeping Hunger '," she said.
Klein paused, and as he pulled out "Creeping Hunger," he realized the potential problem. He instinctively opened his mouth to offer a prepared reason, but the woman seemed to mention it casually. Before he could speak, she lightly turned her body, floated forward a short distance, and stopped in front of a pile of clothes.
"Every gift from Fate comes at a price," her calm voice rang out from nearby. "They don't show kindness to anyone for no reason; they always ask for something in return."
Is this a reminder to me? Fate... refers to the "Soothsayer" I mentioned last time, right? She thinks it's related to that "Soothsayer"? Actually, that's not entirely wrong... Sigh, anyway, at least I don't have to make it up anymore.
Klein breathed a sigh of relief, smiled, and bowed, saying, "Thank you for reminding me, madam."
Sharron didn't respond. Another participant Maric, had already started cleaning up the scene, and Klein joined in. They quickly resolved the issue, and Sharron, having put on her delicate little hat, turned to him and said:
Consider the "Wraith" as your reward.
"The Book of Secrets is in your guest room; the rest are ours."
Klein nodded, agreeing to the allocation plan, and bowed again:
Thank you for your generosity.
"Official Beyonder could arrive at any moment; we should leave."
Sharron nodded and said, "I won't see you off."
As soon as she finished speaking, she disappeared with Maric.
Klein sat atop the "Sefirah Castle" and flexed his left palm, which throbbed with "Creeping Hunger."
Five souls originally Grazing here, belonging to the "Faceless," the "Psychiatrist," the "Interrogator," the "Nightmare," and the "Priest of Light."
The "Faceless" possesses the ability to alter his appearance and physique.
"Psychiatrist" can drive targets into a state of Frenzy, provide psychological suggestions, simulate the might of a dragon to intimidate individuals and groups, and create chaos.
The "Interrogator" ability grants the wearer mastery of various weapons, making them a demolition expert, and granting them the power to focus their mind and pierce the spirit of a target.
"Nightmare" can silently drag people into Dream Infiltration, but unlike the corresponding Beyonder, it mainly relies on "Creeping Hunger" to accomplish this. Therefore, the wearer can still move their body after Dream Infiltration state.
The "Priest of Light" can create an aura-like effect, Purification undead and unclean creatures within a certain range. Additionally, he possesses the "Bard" ability, enhancing his and his companions' singing, and can summon "Holy Light," which is slightly weaker than "Solar Flare."
After defeating the "Wraith" from the "Rose School," Klein released the original "Faceless"Faceless and gained its Beyonder Characteristic. It was a jelly-like, semi-transparent object with various faces appearing and disappearing against a black and green background, like shadowy figures hidden behind dark curtains.
"Wraith" drew the abilities "Etherealization" and "Wraith Shriek"... I wonder how it compares to "Mental Pierce"? But Etherealization is definitely more useful... Speaking of which, if I use Etherealization and simultaneously summon "Holy Light," will it Purification myself? Hmm, I'll try it sometime...
Beyonder Characteristic can be used to replace the main material. Among the auxiliary materials, the blood of the Thousand-Faced Hunter and the hair of the Deep Sea Naga are relatively difficult to collect... But there's no rush. I still have a long time before I finish digesting the Potion, so I can take my time... Speaking of which, I still owe Little "Sun" some compensation, worth about 200 pounds. I wonder if he still remembers... Sigh, he doesn't mention it, and I shouldn't bring it up myself...
Miss Sharron seems to firmly believe in the story of the "Soothsayer." Does that mean I can try to push more things onto that path later? But who are "they" referring to? "Soothsayer"? That doesn't seem like it... Could it be the Beyonder of that Pathway? It should be the "Monster" Pathway... Is this Pathway deeply connected to Fate? That makes sense, after all, they should have a Sequence called "Soothsayer," which sounds unusual...
Neph muttered to herself as she stuffed items one by one into a leather backpack:
"Spirituality materials... change of clothes... hmm, bring out some food later... Speaking of which, thankfully, Miss ' Justice ' sent some bread and canned goods, things with long shelf lives. That space can't keep things fresh for as long as before; it's now just like a refrigerator with extremely low temperatures..."
"Money... this money should be enough for me to live off, right? Not necessarily. Maybe I'll need to buy some Mystical Item, or ask someone to do something for me... Oh well, I'll save it for now. What else do I need to prepare?"
"Hmm, speaking of which, do I look scary like this...? I remember there's a ' Faceless ' ability in ' Creeping Hunger, ' right? Maybe I should borrow it from Klein? But that's not urgent. I should be fine like this until we get to the Gargas Islands. As for the rest... well, if it's really necessary, I should be able to use cosmetics?"
"Eh, covering up skin tone and lip color is quite easy... Let's talk about it later, I still need to prepare drinking water... Tsk, it's really inconvenient without bottled water."
