Just as I thought... Klein was not surprised to hear about his impending transfer. He merely let out a soft breath.
Even before this, he had more or less guessed where he might be transferred.
Since the Church knew about his peculiarities yet still tacitly allowed him to continue serving as a Nighthawk, it would either transfer him to the Cathedral for observation or have him join a "department" where he could advance quickly.
Within the Church, the Red Gloves undoubtedly advanced the fastest-and faced the most danger. Most of their members knew the Acting Method, which allowed them to digest potions quickly and accumulate contributions toward advancement.
As for why the Church of Evernight had chosen a Nighthawk like him, someone unusual but not absolutely loyal to the Church... Klein suspected it might have something to do with the rumored Apocalypse.
Putting that aside, although having the Church of Evernight behind him would impose certain restrictions, Klein felt those restrictions were practically nonexistent when he considered Alger, the other die-hard double-dealer in his Tarot Club.
The only restrictions were probably that he had to fight for the Church and could not betray it. But that had already been Klein's job ever since he transmigrated, and from what he knew of the Church, he also believed he had no reason to betray the Church of Evernight.
Unless the Church's actions crossed his moral bottom line, Klein was willing to stay.
And "rapid advancement" was precisely what Klein needed most urgently. It was not merely the pressure of confronting Ince Zangwill. More importantly, there was his agreement with Nimrod, and he, too, hoped to find a way back to Earth by raising his Sequence.
Having an official organization behind him would be faster than collecting potions as a lone wolf!
Besides...
