Beneath Bruce, on the scorched earth, intangible substances gathered into a mass of shadow. It gave off no unusual aura, blending into its surroundings and hiding beneath the cover of night.

This shadow was Julius's soul.

"Bruce... this man is too strange." Julius stared at Bruce's back. He had only just learned the young man's name, and he was intensely curious about him.

Everything about Bruce was strange.

Julius had never imagined his soul would suffer such an ordeal. He had designed this magic to withstand beings like the Ancient Gods. It was powerful enough that even the Demigods in his family could not unravel it. Yet, against all expectations, an ordinary Extraordinary had managed to affect him through its protection. It had not killed him, but the pain had been worse than death.

It seemed this magic was still inadequate. There were flaws in it, and he would have to design a new spell. Otherwise, when the Ancient Gods descended and disaster struck, this magic would surely fail to shelter his soul.

What surprised Julius even more was that his attempt to seize Bruce's body had failed.

He knew how powerful his soul was. Even with only a third of it, taking someone's body should have been easy, even if that person was an Extraordinary. He also knew this young man was not particularly strong. By all rights, his attempt should not have failed.

To be precise, he had initially stood a chance. He had indeed seized a little control over Bruce's body at first. What Julius had not expected was the lightning that suddenly poured into the man's body. It struck his soul, grievously wounded it, and shattered it, leaving him no choice but to flee the body.
