Liam and Tess trudged along with the supporting troops, dispirited. They had not seen so much as an orc's shadow.
The two had all but lost heart when a blizzard unlike any seen in a century swept through Southshore.
The battle changed dramatically.
The City Guard's frontline forces were nowhere near sufficient, and the supporting troops now became reinforcements.
Jadefire Town had turned into a massive meat grinder. The Warsong Orcs Army Corps seemed to have gone mad, launching furious counterattacks.
Although Liam and Tess had grown up in the royal household, they were not pampered royal children raised in sheltered luxury. Liam spent much of his time clearing out pirates and roaming gnolls outside Gilneas City, while Tess carried out missions large and small at Ravenholdt Manor and pursued advanced training as a Stealth User. But this was their first encounter with bloodthirsty orcs who had escaped from the internment camps.
While clearing out gnolls, Liam had learned that orcs were escaping from Southshore's orc internment camps. The situation was only growing worse.
Southshore lay just a wall away from Gilneas, and Southpoint Watchtower was the southern gateway to the Kingdom of Gilneas.
King Greymane had made no statement on the matter. Liam disagreed with his father and decided to investigate the orc incidents in Southshore.
Upon entering Southshore, Liam learned from fleeing local refugees and the stationed garrisons that the roaming orcs were not scattered stragglers. They belonged to the Warsong Clan, which had guarded the Dark Portal years before.
Realizing how serious the situation was, Liam immediately returned to Gilneas to report to his father.
King Greymane still took no action. The Alliance leadership had sent only two army corps to eliminate the orcs. If Lordaeron was in no hurry, why should Gilneas throw itself into disarray?
