Ch. 21Talking with Fugaku

After leaving the Hokage Office Building, Obito walked home with Fugaku, who explained the Uchiha Clan’s strained position in Konoha and said he valued Obito’s talent. Obito copied two of Fugaku’s Fire Release techniques but decided to postpone getting involved in the clan’s troubles.

Ch. 28A Wood Release Ninja?

Obito returned home after graduating and learned he had been assigned to Minato Namikaze's team, while Danzo discovered a child had survived an experiment with the First Hokage's cells and ordered Obito killed for refusing to join Root. The next morning, Obito met Kakashi and Rin at the bridge, where Rin noticed his dark circles.

  • Obito told his grandmother he had graduated and been assigned to Minato Namikaze's team, then stayed up late reading Make-Out Paradise.
  • Orochimaru told Danzo that experiments transplanting the First Hokage's cells had killed the children, but Danzo discovered one child had survived and manifested Wood Release.
  • Danzo learned Obito had joined Minato Namikaze's team instead of Root and ordered A and B to kill him and retrieve his Sharingan discreetly.
  • Obito arrived late to the bridge where Kakashi and Rin were waiting, and Rin noticed his dark circles.

Ch. 29D-rank mission

Minato assigned Obito, Rin, and Kakashi a D-rank mission to drive wild boars away from a farmer’s cornfield, then turned it into a competition between his team and the students. The students began hunting together, but Kakashi killed their first boar before Obito could claim it, setting off a contest between them.

  • Minato arrived late and told Obito, Rin, and Kakashi that their mission was to deal with wild boars threatening a farmer’s cornfield.
  • Minato split the mission into a competition, sending his shadow clone with the students while he worked separately, with lunch at stake.

  • Kakashi took the lead and decided to kill more boars than Obito.

Ch. 30Selling a Summoning Beast

  • A burly man asked Obito the tiger’s price, and Obito offered it for a hundred thousand ryō with a Summoning Contract.

Ch. 31Looking for Kurenai Yuhi

  • Obito and Kurenai reached their training woods, where Obito hesitated to take her hand when she asked why he had been so quiet.

Ch. 32Ambush in the Woods

Obito completed the system task by kissing Kurenai, then spent the afternoon sparring with her while three black-robed men watched and plotted to capture them. As Obito and Kurenai headed out of the woods, he spotted disturbed soil that suggested a trap ahead.

  • Obito kissed Kurenai, completing the system task and earning a copying opportunity and the second volume of Make-Out Paradise.

  • Obito evaded the three ninja’s combined attacks by sinking underground, then used genjutsu and Kamui to make one of them vanish.
  • Obito caught another ninja in a Skeletal Arm and demanded to know who had sent them.
  • The captive refused to talk, so Obito crushed him to death.
  • The insect-controlling ninja panicked, exposed his upper body, and sent insects crawling from holes in his skin toward Obito.

Ch. 35Put on a show, Obito

Obito captured two Root operatives and suspected Danzo had sent them after him. He staged a public complaint outside the Hokage Office Building, drawing a crowd and bringing Hiruzen Sarutobi downstairs.

  • Obito used his Sharingan to control the insect-controlling ninja, then freed the other operative from the Kamui Dimension and questioned both men.
  • The operatives said they only knew their masked leader was a captain in Root, leading Obito to suspect Danzo.
  • Obito decided to pursue the system mission to make Danzo lose face rather than attack Root directly.
  • Covered in blood, Obito dragged the two bound corpses through the village to the Hokage Office Building and asked to lodge a complaint with the Third Hokage.
  • A guard went upstairs to alert the Hokage, while hundreds of villagers gathered outside.
  • Hiruzen Sarutobi came downstairs and asked Obito what had happened.

Ch. 36Things got out of hand

Obito publicly accused Root of sending two ninjas to assassinate him, forcing Hiruzen Sarutobi to investigate in front of the gathered villagers. After a former Root member identified the dead attackers as jōnin Yamanaka Kine and Shimura Yuri, Shimura Danzō arrived to answer Hiruzen’s summons.

  • Obito told Hiruzen Sarutobi and the villagers that two people had tried to assassinate him while he was training, and he insisted on explaining the incident publicly.
  • Obito accused Root of sending the attackers, and Hiruzen ordered Anbu to summon Danzo and identify the bodies.

  • Danzo saw the dead Root ninja and blamed the incident on Baoguo, while Hiruzen Sarutobi asked Obito how he wanted the matter handled.
  • Obito accepted Hiruzen Sarutobi's decision without protest, received his system mission rewards, and left for the Uchiha Clan Compound.

  • Obito reassured Fugaku that he was unharmed and felt grateful that his clan had come to protect him.

Ch. 38Clan Meeting

Obito went with Fugaku to the Uchiha compound, where he copied Fugaku’s eye power and explained Root’s attack to the clan elders. The clan decided it could not confront Danzo without proof, while Obito resolved to protect the Uchiha from destruction.

  • Fugaku brought Obito to the Uchiha compound, and Obito copied Fugaku’s eye power and shuriken-throwing skill.
  • Mikoto let Obito bathe before Fugaku and the clan elders gathered to discuss the attack and the Uchiha’s standing in Konoha.
  • Obito told the elders what had happened but concealed that he had awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan.
  • Uchiha Tekka and the third elder accused the Third and Danzo of conspiring against Obito and demanded action.
  • Fugaku said the clan lacked enough evidence and strength to confront Danzo, so the meeting ended without a plan.
  • Obito left Fugaku’s house determined to prevent the Uchiha’s destruction and to kill Danzo if he attacked the clan again.

Ch. 39Team Minato

Obito brought unconscious Kurenai home, where Grandmother caught him leaning in to kiss her and beat him before he could explain. A year later, after helping an elderly woman reach Konoha Hospital for a system reward, Obito arrived late to meet Team Minato and admitted to Kakashi that he had been helping her.

  • Obito brought unconscious Kurenai out of the Kamui Dimension, but Grandmother mistook his attempt to kiss her for misconduct and attacked him with a broom.

  • Obito arrived late to meet Kakashi, Rin, and Minato, and told Kakashi he had taken the elderly woman to the hospital.

Ch. 40Chunin registration

Minato gave Team 7 forms for the upcoming Chunin Ninja Exams and explained that Kakashi would retake them so the three-person team could enter together. After Minato collected the forms, Obito copied the Shadow Clone Technique and Rasengan from him, then found that Kakashi and Rin were both unavailable to train.

  • Minato announced the Chunin Ninja Exams and handed registration forms to Obito, Kakashi, and Rin.
  • Minato explained that Kakashi had to retake the exam because Konoha required a three-person team, and said the team would have time off from missions before the exams.
  • Obito used his copying ability on Minato and gained the Shadow Clone Technique, Rasengan, and ten points of earth-nature chakra.
  • After Minato left with the forms, Kakashi declined to train with Obito and went to develop a new technique.
  • Rin also declined to train because she had to help at the shop while her mother went to the hospital, then left after pinching Obito's cheek.
