Obito's sudden departure left Kakashi rooted to the spot.
Still, he had at least heard the parting threat clearly. For some reason, it reminded him of Guy challenging him to a spar, rather than something a true enemy would say.
Besides, the Masked Man's space-time ninjutsu made him virtually unbeatable. Why would he run?
Before long, Kakashi understood why the Masked Man had fled.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh...
Amid a series of rushing sounds, Oto Uchiha and Shisui arrived. They glanced at the spot where Obito had vanished and unleashed several ninjutsu in succession.
The Masked Man had fled because Oto and Shisui were coming.
As soon as Oto Uchiha arrived, she gathered Guy, Yamato, and the others who had been hanging back, then asked where the Seven-Tails Jinchuriki was.
Kakashi scratched his head and said, "We held off the Masked Man. Lord Danzo took the jinchūriki away, and we don't know where they went."
Danzo took her away?
Picking up on that crucial detail, Oto Uchiha exclaimed in surprise, "Danzo isn't dead? Is this an Akatsuki plot to let him keep undermining Konoha?"
At those words, the squad members all widened their eyes, looking helpless.
Everyone knew there was some friction between Danzo and the Uchiha Clan, but it was something they kept quiet about. Hearing her openly question another senior official's actions put them in an awkward position.
They struggled to decide whether to agree or pretend they had heard nothing.
Oto Uchiha seemed to realize that her words had been disrespectful, but even if word got out, nothing much would happen. She was no longer a lowly genin. When she walked down the village streets, other ninja even addressed her as "Lady Oto."
Although she would hardly lose herself in those respectful greetings, they did prove her standing.
