After finishing his speech, Ling Feng looked around at everyone.
Everyone stood ramrod straight, afraid that the slightest misstep would upset their teacher, Ling Feng.
Even the unfortunate souls who had been scorched black ignored their pain and returned to formation.
"I'll design a month-and-a-half training program for you. I can tell you with absolute certainty that the training will only get harder every day, all to give you the best possible chance of passing the Chunin Ninja Exams."
"So if any of you think you can't stick it out, get out now!"
"Otherwise, if any of you try to leave halfway through training, I'll show you what hell on earth really means!"
"Starting now, you have one minute to think it over!"
With that, Ling Feng started timing them.
But no one left.
Although many of them dreaded hardship and exhaustion, they were all willing to put their faith in Ling Feng.
After all, no one wanted to remain a Genin for life. That was a disgrace for a ninja, especially for those who had gone over a decade without advancing. Becoming a Chunin had almost become their lifelong dream.
Age mattered for ninjas, too. As they grew older, their mobility declined. By then, never mind advancing to Chunin-even maintaining their Genin-level abilities would become increasingly difficult.
"Time's up!"
"Then I hereby declare that intensive training for the Chunin Ninja Exams begins now!"
"We have 90 days in total. I'll divide them into three stages of 30 days each. These three stages are..."
Ling Feng began explaining his plan. Everyone before him listened intently, afraid of missing a single word.
It was not that they had suddenly become model students. They were worried that missing a word would lead them to make a mistake and end up scorched black.
At seven or eight years old, this teacher was undoubtedly the youngest in the Ninja Academy's history, but he was also the most ruthless.
One wrong word, and he would beat you senseless. There was no room for discussion.
Meanwhile, in the Hokage's office.
Minato Namikaze stood beside Hiruzen Sarutobi, listening as a Ninja Academy teacher reported what had happened on the training field.
When they heard that Ling Feng had actually beaten up the students who voiced their doubts, they both froze.
But they soon accepted it. That was clearly how Ling Feng did things.
Then they heard that Ling Feng had explained his training schedule for the next 90 days in detail, focusing on intensive training in three areas to improve the pass rate for the Chunin Ninja Exams. Minato Namikaze's and Hiruzen Sarutobi's expressions immediately became quite a sight.
"All right, I understand. You may go."
Hiruzen Sarutobi waved his hand, and the Ninja Academy teacher turned and left.
"Minato, what do you think of Ling Feng's training plan?" Sarutobi Hiruzen asked.
Minato Namikaze stepped in front of Hiruzen Sarutobi and said, "It's excellent. This is a special training program designed specifically for the Chunin Ninja Exams. I believe Ling Feng can meet your requirements."
"Heh, I think so, too. When I raised the required pass rate, I thought it would give Ling Feng some trouble. But it turns out I still underestimated him. That boy really does surprise me every time!"
Hiruzen Sarutobi chuckled. He genuinely liked this promising member of Konoha's new generation.
Minato Namikaze saw it all. Although he felt a little envy and jealousy, he also knew that Ling Feng had earned it through his ability. There was nothing he could do about that.
Once training officially began, Ling Feng took over the entire Ninja Academy training field.
But no one dared object, because Ling Feng was working toward something important.
There were 90 participants in total, and everyone was eager to see just how many would pass.
Under a demanding regimen of rigorous daily training, the 90 days passed one after another.
Though it was grueling, they gained a great deal.
Ling Feng was also very satisfied with the results of their training. They had fully met his expectations, which meant he could easily complete the task Lord Third had assigned him.
The day before the Chunin Ninja Exams, Lord Third came to see Ling Feng in person.
"Lord Third."
Looking at Hiruzen Sarutobi before him, Ling Feng greeted him politely.
"Ling Feng, although I haven't shown up, I've been following your training progress closely. I also sent Minato to gather information from the other villages. The number of participants from those villages has increased quite a bit this time, too. Are you confident?"
Although he knew Ling Feng's training had been a success, Hiruzen Sarutobi still felt a little uneasy.
"Ninety days isn't long, but their strength is already on a completely different level. I guarantee that Konoha will shine in this year's Chunin Ninja Exams!"
Ling Feng spoke confidently.
Hearing that, Hiruzen Sarutobi smiled. "Good! I'll be waiting for your good news!"
The next day, the Chunin Ninja Exams officially began!
First came the written test. Ling Feng could not help with that, since it depended entirely on each person's performance. But he knew it was actually a test of their mental fortitude.
Even if they got every answer wrong, they could still pass, but they could not give up or get caught cheating.
After the written test came individual matches between participants from different villages.
Thanks to their special intensive training, everyone's physical abilities had improved greatly, so Ling Feng was not worried.
But the other villages had skilled fighters as well, and the random matchups were unpredictable, so 81 participants ultimately passed.
When Ling Feng learned the number, he let out a helpless sigh. There really was nothing he could do about these individual matches.
Still, there were 81 left. He would find a way to make sure all 81 passed safely.
Next, they officially entered the Forest of Death and began competing for the Heaven and Earth Scrolls.
Once the examiner finished explaining the rules, the competition officially began.
Following Ling Feng's instructions, the Konoha participants immediately gathered at a single location after entering the Forest of Death. Their first priority was to keep their own scrolls from being taken, then advance toward the finish together as a group.
Ling Feng, meanwhile, acted alone, launching a relentless spree of raids against the enemies around him.
The first opponents he encountered were several squads from Iwagakure. A few Water Release techniques from Ling Feng left them reeling, and they nearly choked to death on the water.
After successfully securing their scrolls, Ling Feng doubled back and handed them to several teams, telling them to head swiftly for the finish before he went out to seize more.
Because there were so many participants, no one noticed what Ling Feng was doing at first.
Only when the observing teachers discovered that teams from villages other than Konoha were being wiped out one after another did they realize that an incredibly powerful fighter from Konoha was hiding among these Genin!
The observing teachers quickly began searching and finally spotted Ling Feng.
"Isn't that Ling Feng, the young prodigy of Konoha's new generation?"
"I never imagined that a seven- or eight-year-old child could have such tremendous fighting power. Almost every team that encounters him is completely helpless!"
"What? Konoha has a Genin that terrifying?"
