On the field, Kisame Hoshigaki pressed his palms together, then slammed them against the ground.

Surging waves burst out of thin air, forming a massive sphere of water around Kisame.

Mu Feng's pupils contracted. He sensed the danger immediately and began retreating.

Mu Feng was fast, but he still failed to escape Kisame Hoshigaki's technique.

Soon, a massive water prison nearly a hundred meters across appeared on the arena floor, trapping both Kisame Hoshigaki and Mu Feng inside.

The spectators in the stands erupted into an uproar.

"What kind of ninjutsu is that?"

"Can Water Release really be that powerful?"

"Isn't that kid from the Uchiha Clan in danger?"

Quite a few spectators rose to their feet in concern, staring at the massive water prison that occupied half the arena, shock plain in their eyes.

Clearly, Kisame Hoshigaki's technique had surpassed the level of a Genin. The moment he unleashed it, he stunned everyone present.

On Kirigakure's side, the two watching Kisame Hoshigaki unleash the Exploding Water Colliding Wave both looked smug.

The two spoke with smug smiles, certain that Mu Feng would lose the match.

Inside the vast body of water, Mu Feng felt the sounds around him grow muffled. Before long, he could no longer breathe.

Mu Feng looked at Kisame Hoshigaki opposite him. Kisame hadn't fused with Samehada as he had in the original story, but the water affected him far less than it did Mu Feng.

Kisame Hoshigaki's gaze sharpened. After he finished his hand seals, water surged from his fingertips, forming five sharks.

The five sharks soon charged straight at Mu Feng.

Underwater, Mu Feng was already suffering from his inability to breathe. His movements were also restricted, noticeably slowing him down.

Mu Feng's heart tightened the instant he saw Kisame unleash the technique. He knew a thing or two about Kisame's ninjutsu.

Those five sharks were difficult to deal with inside the water prison. If they were attacked and destroyed underwater, they would automatically regenerate.

The spectators could clearly make out the five sharks from the stands. They raced through the water prison with their jaws gaping. Though made of water, they still looked vicious-even more frightening than real sharks.

Kurenai Yuhi had already covered her mouth, her eyes full of worry.

"Mu Feng, you can do it! Don't give up!"

Obito was the first in the stands to cheer Mu Feng on.

"Don't let this guy look down on our Konoha!"

As Obito's words rang out, scattered cheers rose from the stands.

"Come on!"

"Take down that shark!"

"Mu Feng, you can do it!"

Soon, the Konoha villagers in the stands united, cheering Mu Feng on.

That was the greatest advantage of fighting on home ground.

The voices traveled through the air and then through the waves, reaching Mu Feng's ears as muffled sounds.

Mu Feng had no time to pay attention to their cheers. His gaze sharpened as he put away the Demon Sword and surveyed his surroundings and the five approaching sharks.

To win now, he had to escape the water prison first, then find a way to break Kisame's technique.

Fortunately, Kisame hadn't yet grown as terrifying as he would become later, and the water prison wasn't that large. If Kisame had created a water prison spanning ten kilometers, Mu Feng could only have waited to die.

The next instant, chakra surged within Mu Feng. To break out successfully, he had to move before the five sharks entangled him, or things would become far too troublesome.

"Eight Gates Released Formation: Gate of Opening, open!"

Mu Feng opened five gates in one breath. Powerful energy surged through his body and erupted outward.

The water inside the prison churned uncontrollably, forming turbulent currents that spread in every direction from Mu Feng.

The turbulence swept the five sharks off in different directions. Seizing that opening, Mu Feng sprinted toward the edge of the water prison with all his strength.

Mu Feng's sudden burst of power drew gasps from the spectators. Even the Jonin couldn't help giving the violently churning water a second look.

"Is that... the Eight Gates Released Formation? How does he know that Taijutsu?"

The chief examiner, Namiashi Raidō, frowned, worry beginning to creep in.

As a Konoha Jonin, he knew how powerful the Eight Gates Released Formation was, but he also knew its side effects.

Normally, someone Mu Feng's age wasn't allowed to learn a technique that harmed the body like this. A single mistake while using it could easily cause irreversible damage.

That was especially true for a genius like Mu Feng. His performance in the Chunin Exams and his earlier swordsmanship clash with Kisame Hoshigaki had both proven his tremendous potential as a ninja. Even if he lost this ninjutsu battle, he would already have proven himself.

The greater concern now was whether using the Eight Gates Released Formation would leave Mu Feng with irreversible injuries. For a genius like him, that would be a nightmare.

What Namiashi Raidō didn't know, however, was that the chance of a technique going wrong for Mu Feng was minuscule-perhaps even nonexistent.

Once his techniques underwent darkening, they would actively adapt to Mu Feng's constitution.

Kisame's teammates could no longer remain calm. Mu Feng was about to break out of the water prison, and they stared fixedly at him.
