Background / History

Transmigration and the Academy

Mu Feng transmigrates into the body of an Uchiha Academy student in Obito’s class. The original owner’s parents died in battle shortly after his birth, and other clan members supported his upbringing. Before the transmigration, he was an ordinary, poorly performing student, only slightly better than Obito 1 4.

His arrival coincides with an Academy assessment. Anxiety about embarrassing himself activates the Super Blackening System, which transforms his prospects immediately: he earns the class’s highest Clone Technique score of 96. Obito subsequently challenges him over Rin Nohara, wagering that he will become Mu Feng’s sidekick if defeated; Mu Feng wins their classroom fight 1 2 3.

Aware of the approaching war and the Uchiha Clan’s future massacre, Mu Feng resolves to become strong enough to survive and prevent the clan’s destruction. He seeks instruction from Might Duy, defeats Guy in a taijutsu-only test, and earns permission to learn the Eight Gates Released Formation 4 5 6.

Early Graduation and Mangetsu’s Death

After protecting Kurenai Yuhi from Asuma, Mu Feng fights Asuma’s Chunin escort and demonstrates his three-tomoe Sharingan. An Anbu intervenes before the confrontation continues. The incident draws the attention of Hiruzen, Danzo, and Fugaku and leads to an offer of early graduation 9 10 11 12 13 14.

Mu Feng graduates, studies the scrolls supplied by his teacher, and begins intensive training. During this period, he gains the Hashirama Body and Wood Release, then encounters Hozuki Mangetsu attacking Kakashi near Konoha 15 16 17.

He intervenes, pursues Mangetsu into the forest with Kakashi’s short sword, and escalates to five gates. When Mangetsu’s Hydrification Technique defeats his slashing attacks, Mu Feng deliberately closes the gates and uses Wood Release and Chidori to kill him. He disguises the branch wounds with sword wounds before leaving, keeping his Wood Release concealed 18 19 20 21.

Chunin Exams and Anbu Recruitment

Hiruzen orders Mu Feng to enter the Chunin Exams alone and watch for enemy-village interference. Mu Feng regards the exams as a controlled preparation for the battlefield. His system also assigns a Chunin-qualification mission offering 1,000 blackening points and a penalty for failure 24.

He passes the written test by using his Sharingan to copy another candidate’s answers. In the Forest of Death, he overwhelms a Kirigakure squad and defeats a Yugakure squad, becoming one of the opponents other teams avoid 27 29 31.

During the exams, Mu Feng is diverted to a covert operation against enemy ninja. He defeats two fleeing Kirigakure opponents—including a Jonin—after a sensory Anbu teammate is poisoned. His participation gives him a bye in the preliminary matches and lays the groundwork for later Anbu recruitment 38 40 41 43.

In the finals, he faces Kisame Hoshigaki, breaks Kisame’s blade, and escapes a massive water prison by opening five gates. After closing them, he channels lightning through Muramasa into the prison. His victory contributes to Konoha’s success in the exams, but his recovery and chakra control also attract Orochimaru’s interest 45 46 47 49 50.

Following his promotion, Hiruzen refuses Danzo’s request to recruit him into Root. Mu Feng chooses Anbu service over studying under Orochimaru and receives an assignment to the rabbit-masked ninja’s squad, with a new mission scheduled one week later 50.

Appearance

Mu Feng has short black hair and dark eyes and is described as handsome. Despite his strength, he retains the small stature of a seven-year-old 1 5 11 45.

  • Sharingan: His activated eyes are scarlet and bear three tomoe 3 11.
  • Clan clothing: Wears clothing displaying the Uchiha fire-fan crest 17.
  • Sword: Carries Muramasa at his waist; its adult-sized length initially requires him to keep a hand on the hilt 41 42.

Personality

Mu Feng combines confidence and provocative humor with a strong awareness of danger. He taunts opponents and eagerly seeks fights that can improve his abilities, but does not assume the system will solve everything. His training goals repeatedly center on becoming strong enough to survive war, and he carefully hides abilities that could expose him to Konoha’s leadership or Orochimaru 3 4 10 21 24 43.

He is friendly toward classmates and values comradeship. His gratitude toward Might Duy leads him to consider saving Duy from his foreknown fate, while his rescue of Kakashi becomes an opportunity to challenge Kakashi’s guarded attitude toward comrades. His affectionate manner around Kurenai contrasts sharply with his ruthless conduct against enemy ninja 8 25 29 46.

Mu Feng also understands how others perceive his age. He uses modest or evasive answers with Hiruzen and Danzo while privately weighing their motives and the risks behind their offers 50.

Abilities & Skills

Super Blackening System

The system allows Mu Feng’s techniques, bloodline, chakra, aptitude, and items to improve through “blackening.” Emotional stimulation can trigger autonomous upgrades; blackening points provide a more deliberate means of development 1 3 5 8.

  • Passive improvement: Learned techniques can train and improve independently, including accelerated growth during a major blackening outbreak 16 22.
  • Directed upgrades: Points can be spent to improve specific skills or purchase items rather than waiting for an unpredictable trigger 8 23.
  • Point sources: Learning ninjutsu and defeating opponents earn points 12 16 41.
  • Technique adaptation: Darkened techniques adapt to his constitution, reducing the risk of incompatibility or malfunction 47.
  • Sharingan upgrade cost: The quoted cost for reaching Mangekyo is 10,000–100,000 points, depending on its special abilities; no Mangekyo awakening is documented 8.

Three-Tomoe Sharingan

Mu Feng uses the Sharingan primarily for perception and copying rather than genjutsu 3 40.

  • Tracks rapid movements, anticipates an opponent’s path, and helps locate Mangetsu within the mist 11 18 19.
  • Copies ninjutsu and analyzes Mangetsu’s swordsmanship during combat 12 19.
  • Reproduces another candidate’s written answers during the Chunin Exam 27.
  • Copying a technique does not replace subsequent practice 14.
  • Cannot yet hypnotize Asuma’s escort; his later encounters still explicitly describe him as lacking genjutsu knowledge 11 40.

Taijutsu and the Eight Gates

Taught by Might Duy, the Eight Gates greatly amplify Mu Feng’s speed, strength, and chakra output. His documented maximum is the fifth gate 6 7 19.

  • With three gates open, he more than doubles his speed and strength and snaps a waist-thick tree with a kick 7.
  • Four gates allow him to disperse Mangetsu’s mist and overwhelm the fleeing Kirigakure ninja 19 40.
  • Five gates enable him to pressure Mangetsu and escape Kisame’s water prison 19 47.
  • The surging chakra makes delicate control and ninjutsu impractical while the gates remain active 20 21.
  • He can forcibly deactivate the technique and use his Hashirama Body to recover before resuming ninjutsu 21 49.

Hashirama Body and Wood Release

His Hashirama Body improves recovery, including repair of internal damage caused by the Eight Gates. The system panel records its development at 4% after Mangetsu’s death 16 21 22.

  • Cutting Branch Technique: Produces hard branches capable of piercing a thick tree and human targets 16.
  • Counterattack: Uses Wood Release alongside Chidori to defeat Mangetsu’s Hydrification Technique 21.
  • Secrecy: Conceals the resulting wounds because he does not want Konoha’s leadership to discover his Wood Release 21.

Ninjutsu and Chakra Control

Mu Feng gains A-rank ninjutsu aptitude and subsequently masters all five elemental chakra natures. Improved control lets him regulate a technique’s power without wasting chakra 16 21 22.

  • Academy and movement techniques: Perfected Clone, Transformation, and Substitution; also learns Body Flicker and Multiple Shadow Clones 2 3.
  • Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique 16.
  • Water Release: Water Formation Wall and Water Dragon Bullet 16.
  • Earth Release: Earth Flow River, Earth Dragon Bullet, and Earth-Style Wall 12 18 29.
  • Projectile technique: Multiple Shuriken Shadow Clone 12.
  • Chidori: Uses it against Mangetsu and later demonstrates it while advising Kakashi on lightning chakra control 21 38.

Swordsmanship and Elemental Infusion

Mu Feng acquires Hozuki Mangetsu’s swordsmanship and combines it with Muramasa’s compatibility with all five chakra natures 21 22 42.

Chakra Nature Observed Blade Effect
Fire Turns crimson and radiates intense heat 42.
Earth Gains a golden coating and increased toughness 42.
Lightning Produces flickering white light and can inflict paralysis 42.
Wind Gains enhanced cutting power, including the ability to cut through energy 42.
Water Accepts the infusion, though Mu Feng observes no equally obvious effect 42.
  • Uses wind-infused sword attacks to pressure Kisame and break his blade 45 46.
  • After closing the gates, applies lightning chakra to Muramasa and plunges it into Kisame’s water prison 47.

Foreknowledge

Having read the original Naruto story, Mu Feng can recognize people, weapons, and future dangers that his classmates do not know 4 17.

  • Identifies Mangetsu through Hiramekarei and his resemblance to Suigetsu 17.
  • Uses knowledge of Kisame alongside direct observation of his exam match to prepare for their fight 36 46.
  • Anticipates the Uchiha massacre, Duy’s wartime death, and the danger posed by Orochimaru’s interest in his constitution 4 8 43.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Demon Blade Muramasa — Purchased for 3,000 blackening points. A system-modified sword compatible with all five elemental chakra natures 23 41 42.

  • Temporary fox mask — Used for the covert Anbu operation and returned when the mission ends 41.

Relationships

  • Kurenai Yuhi — Classmate and mutual romantic interest. He protects her from Asuma, accepts her handmade charm, and considers requesting a shared team assignment; their relationship is not established as a formal romance 9 11 25.
  • Obito Uchiha — Classmate and rival. Loses their duel after wagering sidekick service, later challenges Mu Feng again, and vows to catch up 2 3 14 25.
  • Might Guy — Friend, sparring partner, and training rival. Mu Feng’s progress repeatedly motivates Guy to intensify his training 6 7 46 49.
  • Might Duy — Eight Gates teacher. Mu Feng hopes to repay his instruction by saving him from his predicted wartime death 6 8.
  • Kakashi Hatake — Former classmate, rescued comrade, and rival. Acknowledges Mu Feng’s superior strength and seeks his advice about Chidori 25 38.
  • Asuma Sarutobi — Classmate and rival. Despite initially fighting Mu Feng, he attempts to stop his escort from intervening and later resolves to surpass him 9 10 33.
  • Hiruzen Sarutobi — Hokage and assignment authority. Arranges Mu Feng’s solo exam participation, praises his public and covert contributions, and appoints him to Anbu 24 50.
  • Uchiha Fugaku — Clan head who sees Mu Feng as a potential future Hokage candidate and orders protection from the shadows without directly involving him in clan affairs 13.
  • Danzo Shimura — Would-be recruiter whom Mu Feng distrusts, particularly over the safety of his Sharingan. Hiruzen blocks his attempt to take Mu Feng into Root 23 50.
  • Orochimaru — Potential teacher and unwanted observer. Becomes interested in Mu Feng’s ability to recover from the gates and immediately perform delicate chakra manipulation 43 49 50.
  • Minato Namikaze — Provides Flying Thunder God training materials 42.
  • Rabbit-masked Anbu ninja — His squad leader after the Chunin Exams, tasked with introducing him to Anbu service 50.
