"Poverty saved me?" Joey repeated Benny's words.
He nodded thoughtfully and sighed in silence. Perhaps! If only there were an internet! There were too few ways to get information in this world!
Once again, he felt the limitations of his knowledge, and he began to miss the world that had the internet.
"Where there is light, there is darkness." Benny Hoyland's expression turned utterly solemn.
Joey had no idea what had happened to him and could not understand his actions.
All he could do was offer his own view. "Director, I'm just an insignificant nobody. I don't have any grand ambitions. I only want to protect my little family and live in peace."
He had a fair amount of self-awareness and knew exactly where he stood.
The matters Benny Hoyland was involved in were enormous. One misstep could drag all of Lia Harbor into them.
"Can you give my sister back?"
Their eyes met. After a moment of silence, Benny slowly nodded. "Yes, but not now." With a solemn expression, he forced the next words through his teeth. "Next, I need you to help me recover what was lost and find those people."
Joey thought it over, weighing the advantages and disadvantages of agreeing.
The Sea God's heart was in Annie's hands. For now, he would assume it really was the Sea God's heart. After all, there was no way to verify what that thing they had summoned actually was.
Benny Hoyland's known objective was to find the Holy Maiden.
The Holy Maiden was the key to whether the Sea God could revive.
Compared with Annie's side, that objective was clear. What Joey needed to do now was find a way to uncover Annie's true purpose.
So he decided to agree to Benny Hoyland's request first.
"All right. I agree."
