Against Caitlin's blatantly obvious Trick Room Team, Qingyu barely needed to think about his leads.
Psychics seemed especially fond of Trick Room Teams. Perhaps that was because the move really could work wonders in certain situations...
But against Qingyu, Caitlin was practically a raw recruit when it came to playing Trick Room.
The reason was simple-
It wasn't that nothing could compete with Sunny Day Team captain Torkoal's speed under Trick Room, but Caitlin's lineup clearly couldn't.
So Qingyu could confidently lead with Torkoal.
Its Fire-type moves also had a significant advantage against two of Caitlin's key Pokémon, Bronzong and Metagross.
As for his other lead, Qingyu made his decision almost immediately.
He passed over Charizard, whose overwhelming firepower had torn through the singles ladder earlier, and instantly locked in the more utility-focused Incineroar.
Charizard and Venusaur would fill the two slots in the back.
Since the opposing team didn't have a single Water-type Pokémon, Gastrodon had predictably fallen out of favor.
Scovillain's role overlapped somewhat with Venusaur's, so he didn't choose that Pokémon either.
After locking in his Pokémon for the match, Qingyu took a moment to explain his opponent's strategy to the viewers.
"Caitlin's openly telegraphed Trick Room Team probably uses Metagross and Gallade as attackers, with Bronzong setting Trick Room and Gothitelle providing support, if I'm not mistaken."
"Reuniclus is pretty good as either a Trick Room attacker or a tank."
"As for Sableye, it can't use Trick Room, but it has its own irreplaceable support tools."
"I really can't be sure who she'll lead with. Personally, I'm leaning toward Auntie coming out to control the field with Shadow Tag."
"As for the other one... maybe Reuniclus?"
Qingyu thought it over, his tone growing more certain.
[Auntie... you mean Caitlin? What kind of nickname is that? Hahahaha,
