Background / History
Origins and Transportation
In his previous life, Qingyu was a small-time Pokémon battle streamer whose unconventional play attracted tens of thousands of followers. He awakens in the Pokémon world with the memories of an eighteen-year-old who shares his name 1.
The original Qingyu grew up in Celestic Town and moved to Cabo Poco with his parents at thirteen. Both parents were Ace Trainers, and the family established the Sunshine Gym. Approximately six months before Qingyu’s arrival, they disappeared during the Area Zero time machine project, having taken nearly all the Gym’s Pokémon with them. The original Qingyu withdrew into grief and died of emotional exhaustion the night before the newcomer awakened 1.
Rebuilding Sunshine Gym
With the Gym closed for six months and an accreditation review only two months away, Qingyu turns to livestreaming through the Life Comeback System. His first Pokémon Champions broadcast demonstrates a level-one Aron strategy; Steven’s subsequent support helps his follower count rise from over a thousand to over ten thousand overnight 1 3 5 9.
After meeting Nemona and researching the regional Leagues, Qingyu concludes that the world is roughly two years earlier than the game timeline he remembers. He chooses to concentrate on the Gym rather than seek a protagonist’s role. Although Cynthia invites him back to Celestic Town, he replies that he wants to preserve the Gym his parents left behind 10 20.
Nemona becomes the reopened Gym’s first challenger. After defeating her, Qingyu advises her on raising Pawmi and recruits her as an apprentice. Iono later explains that his internationally popular tutorials lack the local focus needed to attract Paldean challengers, prompting him to showcase common Paldean Pokémon 21 23 25 27.
Recognition and Continuing Assessment
Cynthia visits after recognizing Qingyu’s voice in his videos. She offers him a Riolu, whose approval he earns through a trial battle, and promises that Celestic Town will welcome him if he needs support 30 33 35 36.
His victory over Larry attracts Geeta and Rika’s attention, with Geeta asking Rika to assess him. His later Chansey tutorials also gain Nurse Joys’ support. After battling the Nurse Joy from Flat Dish Town, he recommends Yawn for her Chimecho; she praises his guidance and considers him a promising candidate for promotion among Paldea’s eight Gyms. That promotion remains only a possibility, and his system quest is still waiting on the Gym assessment 40 48 49 50.
Appearance
Qingyu appears as a handsome eighteen-year-old young man after his transportation 1.
Personality
Qingyu is playful, sarcastic, and comfortable presenting himself as a mischievous battle instructor. He enjoys surprising opponents with frustrating strategies and entertaining viewers with jokes, predictions, and theatrical move calls. Despite his confidence in competitive theory, he recognizes that real battles expose weaknesses his gaming experience cannot automatically solve 12 15 21 25 45.
His care for Pokémon takes priority over immediate strength. Eevee’s happiness matters more to him than the rewards from her travels, and he reassures her rather than blaming her fear of battle. He also reduces Riolu’s punishing training routine and trusts Riolu’s judgment during a dangerous matchup instead of treating a Gym victory as essential 8 11 44 49.
He treasures his parents’ Gym and wants to make it succeed independently. His pride is tempered by practical willingness to accept help: he follows Iono’s management advice, studies Blue’s notes, and accepts Cynthia’s Riolu after initially hesitating over relying on her 20 25 32 34.
Abilities & Skills
Competitive Battle Strategy
Qingyu draws on strategies developed in his previous world, giving him extensive knowledge of Pokémon moves, Abilities, items, and team construction. He can quickly identify tactical possibilities in unfamiliar lineups and predict experienced opponents’ decisions 3 12 38.
| Strategy | Applications and Limits |
|---|---|
| Level-one Endeavor loop | Aron survives through Sturdy, reduces the opponent’s HP with Endeavor, and restores itself with Shell Bell. Sandstorm supplies finishing damage. Ghost-types and multi-hit attacks can counter the strategy 4 5. |
| Offensive hazard stacking | Uses Stealth Rock and Spikes to bring opponents into knockout range, then attacks rather than relying solely on forced switching. Skarmory and Metagross secure a 6:1 victory in one demonstration 13 14. |
| Trick Room and Explosion | Reverses fast teams’ speed advantage with Bronzong, then uses Explosion to preserve or widen a Pokémon-count lead. Defeats Iono after removing her Explosion-resistant Mismagius 15 16 18. |
| Maushold anti-hazard play | Encore locks an opposing setter into repeating a move, while Tidy Up counters hazards and prepares Population Bomb sweeps. Qingyu identifies Rocky Helmet and Rough Skin as counters; a missed Population Bomb costs him a promotion match 27 29. |
| Bulky Gale Wings Talonflame | Combines Bulk Up with priority Roost to withstand physical attacks. Uses prediction and team support to defeat Larry 36 38 40. |
| Scientific Minimize Team | Combines Chansey’s special bulk, Eviolite, Minimize, and Seismic Toss to wear opponents down. Also publishes a demonstration of Garchomp countering it with Dragon Rush 45 48. |
Pokémon Training and Instruction
Qingyu adapts training to individual Pokémon rather than applying a single routine 11 32 41.
- Eevee: Uses her love of painting to teach her to reproduce moves with her tail, successfully guiding her through Encore and Confuse Ray 11 20.
- Pawmi: Recommends physical attack and speed training to exploit Iron Fist, then adapts stamina exercises from Blue’s notes 23 32.
- Riolu: Arranges Isle of Armor training with an Efficiency-Boosting Pill; later monitors his instruction under Urshifu and Mienshao, with Unseen Fist listed as the training goal 41 43.
- Challenger guidance: Offers practical raising advice after battles, including recommending Yawn to address Chimecho’s combat difficulties 23 50.
- Public tutorials: Teaches both strategies and their counters, including Rapid Spin, Defog, Heavy-Duty Boots, and Magic Bounce as answers to entry hazards 19.
Life Comeback System
The system connects Sunshine Gym’s growth with rewards and Pokémon-development tools 6 17 40.
- System Pokédex: Displays Pokémon information after Qingyu focuses on a target for roughly five seconds. Information on opposing Pokémon can be more limited than information on his own partners 6 21.
- Travel Training: Sends Pokémon to other regions to develop; the initial price is 50 growth points per trip. Qingyu receives notifications about their activities 6 41.
- Point Shop and Daily Shop: Allow growth points to be exchanged for items. The Daily Shop unlocks after his accumulated points exceed 1,000 and offers four daily items 6 40.
- Limitations: These tools do not replace practical experience. Eevee freezing during her first Gym battle makes Qingyu acknowledge his novice status in real-world commanding 21.
Pokémon
| Pokémon | Relationship and Battle Role |
|---|---|
| Eevee — female | Starter partner who hatched in Celestic Town. Timid, fond of painting, and gifted with Anticipation; learns Sketch through travel and later Encore and Confuse Ray through Qingyu’s guidance. Qingyu prioritizes their bond and lets her eventual evolution develop naturally 6 8 11 20. |
| Riolu — male | Introduced by Cynthia and joins after recognizing Qingyu. Has Prankster and an extremely cautious nature; trains intensely and defeats Nurse Joy’s Chimecho using moves including Fake Out and Quick Attack 34 35 41 49. |
