"Scizor, Trailblaze."

When Wallace heard Qingyu calmly issue his command despite the pressure from Mega Swampert, his voice even sounding faintly amused, alarm bells immediately went off in his head.

Trailblaze. The name alone told him it was a Grass-type move.

Yet most Pokémon that could learn it weren't actually Grass types.

That was because Trailblaze worked by imitating the battle instincts of wild Pokémon, leaping out of the grass to ambush an opponent and temporarily increasing the user's speed through nimble footwork.

It provided a stat boost, but its power was quite ordinary, rated at just 50 in the Pokédex.

The problem was...

Qingyu's Scizor was 1,000% guaranteed to have Technician!

With Technician boosting low-power moves, even without a same-type attack bonus, a Trailblaze from Scizor posed an enormous threat to Mega Swampert, which had a quadruple weakness to Grass.

If Qingyu wanted to be even more underhanded and gave this Scizor a Choice Band...

Swampert might end up owing a chunk of HP. There was no way it would survive.

Every time he faced a potential one-hit knockout like this, Wallace wanted to rant about this battling game.

It wasn't realistic at all! Whose ace just keeled over from a mere quadruple weakness? Shouldn't it fight fiercely for dozens of turns despite the unfavorable matchup?

A Swampert getting knocked out by one little Trailblaze? Wallace, for one, had never even heard of such a thing.

But in the game, he had no choice but to watch out for that move.

"Come back, Swampert!"

Using Protect now would be pointless. He might as well follow Qingyu's earlier example and switch decisively, weathering this attack at the lowest possible cost.

And his pure rain team did indeed have a wall that could take a Grass-type attack head-on.

Toxapex!
