Xia You and the others walked over to Lühé and looked out over the lake as well. Even without binoculars, under the bright moonlight, they could see a patch of water in the Birth and Evolution Lake bubbling away as though it were boiling.
And that maddening roar was coming from beneath those bubbles!
Misty pulled her clothes tighter around herself and asked, "Mr. Lühé, does this mean the Magikarp have started evolving?"
Lühé hesitated, seemingly unsure himself.
"In theory, the Magikarp should indeed begin evolving around this time, but that patch of water is very unusual. It doesn't look like a sign of evolution."
Hearing the slight rasp in Lühé's voice, Xia You couldn't help turning to look at him.
Lühé happened to have just lowered his binoculars. People always said staying up late was terrible for your health, and though he still seemed fairly alert, his eyes were already bloodshot, making him look a little frightening.
Just then, as the roaring grew louder, that patch of lake water began churning, growing increasingly violent.
While everyone was still wondering what was happening, a giant Magikarp with dazzling beams of light shooting from its eyes suddenly burst out of the water!
Splash!
The giant Magikarp floated on the surface, water streaming down its body, forming droplets that slid past its hideous, gaping mouth. It looked terrifying!
At first, its size startled them all, and they thought it was some rare giant Pokémon. But once they calmed down and took a closer look, they realized this was no Magikarp at all. It was clearly a huge Magikarp Submarine!
Not only were the submarine's steel plates clearly visible, even the screws on its scales stood out. And those two beams were searchlights shining from where its eyes should be!
