On the field, the battle between Noctowl and Jolteon continued.
Jolteon ran behind a huge boulder, suddenly skidded to a halt, then turned to face Noctowl. A dazzling Electroweb shot from his body, spreading toward Noctowl.
But Ash's Noctowl was very clever. Even before Jolteon began turning, he had seen through his intentions. With a simple sidestep and a beat of his wings, he moved out of the Electroweb's range.
The Electroweb skimmed past Noctowl and finally dissipated in the air.
In the Pokémon Trainer's Battle Area, Xia You could not help nodding in approval at Noctowl's performance.
Although Ash's Shiny Noctowl was a little smaller than others of his kind, he was extremely intelligent. Not only did he have a good head on his shoulders, he could even direct other Pokémon in battle.
Back then, Ash had gone to great lengths to finally catch him. Compared with ordinary Pokémon, he had a mind of his own on the battlefield, and could assess the situation and seize fleeting opportunities!
Just as he did now: after escaping Jolteon's Electroweb, he took advantage of Jolteon's brief pause. Without waiting for Ash's command, he flapped his wings and counterattacked with two Air Slashes.
"Jolteon, dodge!"
Jolteon leaped aside. Although he dodged one of the blasts of air, the other Air Slash still struck him.
Xia You raised his eyebrows. Though he had been prepared for it, he still had to admit that this Noctowl really was clever!
Other Pokémon would have to wait for their Trainers' commands before attacking, and the time between receiving the message and executing the action could cost them an opening. But Pokémon like Noctowl could rely entirely on their own experience and intelligence to seize such opportunities!
He could fight and command, and most importantly, he was Shiny.
