Chapter Summaries

Xia You and Pheobe returned to the shrine after Team Magma staged a surprise attack, only to find the Red Orb stolen and Pheobe’s grandparents’ house burning. Xia You sent Pheobe and Misty to contain the fires while he went after Maxie and Team Magma.

• Xia You warned Pheobe not to pursue Team Magma too far, but she kept fighting because she wanted to catch Maxie and avenge her grandparents’ house.
• Maxie ordered Team Magma to hold Pheobe and Xia You in place while Tabitha slipped behind them to steal the Red Orb.
• Pheobe and Xia You hurried back after an explosion at the shrine, where they found Pheobe’s house and the surrounding trees engulfed in flames.
• Misty told Xia You and Pheobe that attackers had overwhelmed her while Tabitha escaped with the Red Orb, carried by two Weezing.

• Xia You left Pheobe and Misty to fight the fire on Mt. Pyre and followed Team Magma’s retreat with Dragonite.
• Maxie celebrated obtaining the Red Orb, and Team Magma drove to its hideout near Lilycove City while Xia You tracked them from above.
• Xia You sent Gengar to scout the cave entrance, then explored the coastal cliffs with Gardevoir and Scizor but found no hidden way in.

Xia You and Deoxys broke into Team Magma’s base, forcing Maxie to abandon it and escape by submarine. Courtney stayed behind with the self-destruct controller, and when Xia You reached the harbor too late to catch Maxie, she experienced a terrifying vision of Groudon’s uncontrolled destruction.

• Team Magma’s captain recognized Deoxys, but Deoxys swiftly defeated the garrison and triggered the base alarm.
• Maxie ordered the base evacuated, its data destroyed or transferred, and the noncombatants sent to the submarine.

Xia You persuaded Zinnia to meet him in Lilycove City in three days, then traveled with Ash and the others to LaRousse City. After arriving, the group explored the futuristic city, where Ash was rescued from a conveyor belt by a boy with a Blaziken.

• Xia You revealed his knowledge of the People of Sootopolis and the Dragon Altar, then convinced Zinnia that Deoxys could attract Rayquaza and arranged to meet her in Lilycove City in three days.
• Xia You woke late, joined Ash and the others for breakfast, and traveled with them by light rail from Lilycove City to LaRousse City.

• Xia You’s Deoxys sensed others of its kind nearby, but the city’s magnetic fields prevented it from locating them.
• Ash asked Xia You, Misty, and Brock to partner with him in the Battle Tower’s Double Battles, but all three refused.
• The group arrived at the Battle Tower and split up, with Xia You taking an elevator to the top floor to survey LaRousse City.
• Xia You encountered Drew, who said LaRousse City was his home and asked why the girl who was always with Xia You was absent.

Xia You suspected Drew had developed feelings for Misty, then searched LaRousse City for the research institute before returning to watch Ash’s team battle. Ash and Xiao Chao lost badly to Rafe and Shota, and Xia You went to check on them afterward.

After learning that Xiao Chao feared Pokémon because of past trauma, Ash set out to help him befriend Pikachu. Xia You tried to reach the Laboratory, but the arrival of another Deoxys drew him to the forest, where it finally met his Deoxys.

• Yuko told Ash and the others that Xiao Chao had become afraid of Pokémon after a terrifying experience, and Ash blamed himself for pushing him into a battle.
• Ash decided to help Xiao Chao overcome his fear by befriending him with Pikachu, while Xia You sent Gengar to follow Yuko toward the Laboratory.
• A Red Aurora appeared above LaRousse City, and Xia You recognized it as a sign that another Deoxys had arrived.

• Xia You used Gardevoir to tell the wild Deoxys that its companion was safe, and the Deoxys agreed to wait and trust him.
• Rayquaza arrived and attacked the two Deoxys, while Gardevoir shielded Xia You from its blast.
• Dr. Lund warned Officer Jenny that Rayquaza might reach LaRousse City, and she ordered the residents and tourists to evacuate.
• Ash and his friends heard the alarm, and Xiao Chao offered to lead them to his father's research institute for shelter.
• Ash led the group outside to find the battle moving toward the city, and Max identified the green Pokémon as Rayquaza.

As Ash and other Trainers rushed toward the battle to catch the Legendary Pokémon, Xia You redirected Rayquaza toward them and used Deoxys’s duplicates to drive them back. Misty and May watched from the riverbank, where Max marveled at Deoxys’s power.

• Misty told Ash and the others that the two Pokémon were Deoxys, Mythical Psychic-type Pokémon as powerful as Rayquaza, while keeping Xia You’s ownership secret.
