"Luca?"
"Meow~"
Early that morning, Lucario came downstairs for her morning workout and found Meownei still keeping watch nearby. She asked whether Meownei needed any help.
After receiving a no, she headed to the roof to find Corviknight.
She and Corviknight had been teaming up lately, mainly to battle that flock of Spearow.
Among the many Pokémon commonly found near people's homes, Spearow were a particularly reckless type.
Despite having "sparrow" in their name, they lived more like free-range chickens.
It wasn't that Spearow couldn't fly, but that they weren't good at it. Their short wings made them naturally unsuited to flying at high altitudes or over long distances, which gave them a fierce sense of territory.
Since they fed on insects in fields and grasslands and did a good job of controlling pests, Spearow were popular with farmers.
But Spearow were reckless by nature. Any Pokémon that entered their territory would be attacked, no matter the reason.
Corviknight had fought those Spearow back when it was still a Corvisquire.
Corvisquire could fly higher than they could, giving it the advantage of altitude. Even when outnumbered, it could handle them.
After evolving into Corviknight, its sturdy iron armor gave it the advantage even if it simply stood there and let the Spearow attack.
Later, those Spearow brought in several Fearow. Once they evolved into Fearow, these Pokémon became skilled fliers instead, using their speed advantage to fight circles around Corviknight. Unwilling to accept that, Corviknight decided to come back and call for backup.
Lucario happened to be looking to gain more combat experience, so the two formed an aerial combat squad.
While lazy Pokémon still needed someone to push them to exercise, hardworking Pokémon were already heading out to level up on their own.
