In a sense, Ghost-type Pokémon were the ghosts of this world. It was said that both deceased Pokémon and deceased humans could become Ghost-type Pokémon.
These "ghosts" also had very unusual abilities. Some could use illusions to imitate human appearances and alter their surroundings, like the Gastly at Maiden's Peak.
Long lives could also give some Ghost-type Pokémon the ability to speak human languages, and entering dreams was one of their most basic abilities. At least for Gengar, it was easy to tell whether Squirtle was really asleep or faking it, and what he was doing in his dreams.
"Squirtle! Squirtle!" Squirtle raised his hand in protest again, insisting that he had not only been training properly, but had also made some progress.
Since Meownei wanted to see, he could give her a demonstration.
With that, Squirtle patted his shell, then used Rest right in front of everyone.
In less than 0.1 seconds, Squirtle's eyelids snapped shut, his breathing steadied, and a pale blue healing glow enveloped his body. His snores filled the living room.
At the same time, the corners of Squirtle's mouth curled upward slightly, as though he were saying that he would show them the power of his Sleeping Squirtle Fist.
"Meow. (I don't know whether he's learned Sleep Talk, but his skill at falling asleep... he's mastered that completely. Even that Snorlax couldn't fall asleep faster than him, could it?)"
"Probably. Do any of you remember?"
"Meowrr!"
"Luca..."
Torracat and Lucario, who were watching nearby, shook their heads in turn, unsure what to make of this. Meownei turned her gaze toward Gengar beside her.
"Meow. (Sorry for the trouble, Gengar. Go see what Squirtle is actually doing in his dreams.)"
Meownei rubbed her face, seemingly trying to wake herself up a little, then spoke to Gengar
