After surviving the river and finding his way back to Zhang Xiaohu, Zhang Xiaohua returned to Huanxi Mountain Villa and was admitted to the Misty Sect. Zhang Xiaohu also joined the sect, while Zhang Xiaohua chose the mysterious Carefree Heart Sutra and received Misty Steps to study with He Tianshu.

• Zhang Xiaohua killed the black-clad elder with his little sword, but the elder’s palm strike sent him into the river unconscious, and searchers found no trace of him.
• Master Jingxuan and Xiao Meng rescued Zhang Xiaohua, who recovered by the river before the two left, and he then discovered a hidden cave and continued toward home through the snow.
• Zhang Xiaohua reached a town, defeated Brother Fan and his men, and met Yuan Changqing, who brought him to Zhang Xiaohu at the Lotus Escort Agency.
• Zhang Xiaohua traveled back toward Pingyang City with Zhang Xiaohu’s convoy, where Fourth Master Wen learned he was alive and arranged for He Tianshu to take him back to Huanxi Mountain Villa.
• Zhang Xiaohua reunited with Ou Yan, accepted one hundred taels instead of her ten-thousand-tael compensation, and Ou Yan secured Ou Peng’s agreement to admit him to the Misty Sect.
• Ou Peng admitted Zhang Xiaohua and agreed to admit Zhang Xiaohu at his brother’s request, and Zhang Xiaohua chose the Carefree Heart Sutra from the Library Pavilion, and Wen Wenhai took Zhang Xiaohu as his disciple.

• Aunt Qin and Ou Yan explained the Carefree Heart Sutra and warned Zhang Xiaohua to keep it private, while He Tianshu began teaching him the Misty Steps.
• Zhang Xiaohua unconsciously cultivated Primordial Qi through the night, learned to sense and draw it in at the medicinal fields, and gradually developed true qi.
• Li Jinfeng brought Zhang Xiaohua news and a letter from home, and He Tianshu escorted him to visit Zhang Xiaohu, who gave him the Mighty Ox Strength manual and described the tournament.
• Zhang Xiaohua rapidly learned the Misty Steps, built a grass shelter in the medicinal fields, and cultivated through a thunderstorm that damaged and then expanded his meridians.
• Ou Yan registered Zhang Xiaohua for the tournament, where a Misty Sect disciple sent him galloping on a horse to Fledgling Eagle Hall.
• Zhang Xiaohua drew his tournament matches by combining his strength with the Misty Steps, while Zhang Xiaohu watched and renewed his resolve to improve.
• Zhang Xiaohua stayed with Zhang Xiaohu, met Changge and Chen Chen, and continued drawing matches as Shangguan Yun and Yu Deyi withdrew after defeats.
• Zhang Xiaohua waited outside Medicine Hall while Zhang Xiaohu sought He Tianshu, and Steward Chang accused him of lurking and possibly stealing.
