"Sorry for the trouble, but please let us off here."

Returning his attention to the present, Xia Chi spoke to the old boatman.

"Of course, sir."

The old boatman answered simply, guiding the boat steadily to the nearest bank with his oar.

After paying the fare, Xia Chi stepped ashore with Meowscarada, Ogerpon, and Victini, who was still wrestling with the Cream Puff.

He climbed the stone steps onto the arched bridge and approached the girl's easel.

Seeing them approach, the girl gave them a bright, friendly smile. Her sparkling eyes continued to study them, especially the unusually tall Meowscarada and the adorable Ogerpon.

(Kanon/Latias in human form)

"Hello there."

Kanon's voice was clear and pleasant, carrying the light, lilting cadence unique to Alto Mare.

"I saw you on the boat just now, and the scene was so beautiful that I couldn't help painting it. You... don't mind, do you?"

She pointed at her easel, looking a little embarrassed.

Xia Chi leaned over to look. The canvas depicted them passing beneath the bridge in their Gondola.

The golden glow of sunset spilled across the water and the little boat. Ogerpon nestled beside him, looking around curiously, while Meowha lay gracefully at the bow.

Though it was only a rough sketch, the composition was lively, and the brushstrokes already captured the Pokémon's vivid character.

Xia Chi had wanted to get closer to Kanon in the first place. Turning to her, he smiled. "Of course not."

"Thank you!"

Kanon smiled happily, her cheeks turning faintly pink. "Um... I haven't finished yet, and the light changes so quickly. Could you stay here for a little while? In return, I can be your guide tomorrow."

As though only just remembering, she added, "Oh, right. My name's Kanon. I'm an Alto Mare local."
