Background / History

Ogerpon came to Kitakami with a friendly but fierce-looking human whom she regarded as her father. Frightened by their appearance, the villagers drove them into the Dreaded Den on Oni Mountain. Seeking acceptance, her father commissioned four masks from a local craftsman, incorporating crystal fragments he had brought with him. Wearing the masks, they could attend the Festival of Masks and receive a warm welcome 103 107.

An elderly couple coveted the masks and sent Pecharunt to steal them. Pecharunt enthralled Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti, then led them to the pair’s cave. Ogerpon’s father returned during the theft and protected the Teal Mask despite a fatal beating; the thieves escaped with the other three masks. Ogerpon returned to find him dying and pursued his killers 103.

Her anger awakened the Teal Mask’s power, and she defeated the Loyal Three. Villagers arriving during the battle mistook her for an attacker and the thieves for their defenders. They built shrines to the “Loyal Three,” while the mask maker’s attempts to explain the truth resulted in persecution. His descendants preserved the account privately 103.

For centuries, Ogerpon lived with isolation and a reputation as a murderous oni. Stories, warning signs, and the annual festival reinforced the false account. Her attempts to approach humans met only fear and disgust, leaving her emotionally numb before Xia Chi’s arrival 107.

Appearance

Ogerpon is a petite, grass-green humanoid Pokémon whose small frame contrasts sharply with her enormous conjured cudgel 107 115.

  • Eyes: Bright golden-yellow, with a star-shaped appearance 107 156.
  • Face: Two tiny pointed fangs; Lacey immediately praised her unmasked face as cute 107 110.
  • Build: Short legs and small, slender hands; she barely reaches Xia Chi’s waist 108 110.
  • Weight: Described as nearly forty kilograms despite her tiny appearance 109.
  • Masks: Usually conceals her face behind a mask; the Wellspring Mask is azure and resembles a crying face 110 202.

Personality

Ogerpon is affectionate, sensitive, and deeply afraid of loneliness. Centuries of rejection left her wary of strangers, reluctant to uncover her face, and frightened by crowds. Xia Chi’s reassurance helps her approach others, but even an enthusiastic crowd of fans overwhelms her after her reputation is restored 107 108 110 156.

She does not enjoy battling for its own sake. Nemona’s challenge initially sends her into a panic, and Xia Chi promises not to force her to fight. Her willingness to train later grows from wanting to protect him rather than a desire for competitive success 110 122 207.

Her gentleness does not extend to cruelty. She hates seeing the strong bully the weak, immediately intervenes when Paradox Pokémon attack Miraidon, and becomes fiercely violent toward her father’s killers or anyone threatening Xia Chi 115 119 254 302.

Abilities & Skills

Mask Forms and Abilities

Her mask determines both her form’s typing and its ordinary Ability 109.

Form Type Ability Documented effect or use
Teal Mask Grass Defiant Stat reductions trigger sharp Attack increases. Xia Chi exploited allied Tail Whip and Growl to activate it twice 109 115.
Wellspring Mask Grass/Water Water Absorb Absorbed the Water-type energy of Urshifu’s Aqua Jet 109 202.
Hearthflame Mask Grass/Fire Mold Breaker Listed in her system profile; Xia Chi later considered using this form to complete the Four-Fire Bond 109 350.
Cornerstone Mask Grass/Rock Sturdy Listed in her system profile 109.
Terastallized state Stellar enhancement Embody Aspect The Ability is listed in her profile; her demonstrated transformation enlarges the mask rather than her body 109 174.
  • Removing the Wellspring Mask restores Defiant, allowing her to turn an incoming Leer into an Attack boost 203.
  • Without a mask, she is considerably weaker. Xia Chi estimates her unmasked strength at roughly that of an average Champion’s Pokémon 160.

Embody Aspect Bond

Separate from the Ability of the same name, this unique Bond grants the maximum-tier type Bond corresponding to the mask she holds 109.

  • Teal Mask: Provides the Six Grass Bond without requiring six Grass-bonded teammates 109 110.
  • Cornerstone Mask: Grants 25% damage reduction and 15% Special Defense per move, up to twenty stacks. At the cap, her size and HP increase by 100% 109.

Grass Bond and Tree of Life

The Grass Bond increases Attack, Defense, and HP by 1% per second after battle begins. Its ordinary cap is 100%; the Six Grass Bond raises that cap to 200% and summons the Tree of Life when reached 109 110.

  • Timing: The Six Grass effect reaches its cap after 200 seconds 115 203.
  • Healing: Bonded Pokémon within the tree’s range recover 3% HP per second 110.
  • Protection: Grants immunity to all status conditions and increases all stats by 20% 110.
  • Fatal Immunity: Every allied unit—including Trainers and Pokémon without the Grass Bond—receives one instance of protection against a fatal hit 110.
  • Scaling: The tree’s listed buff values scale with the activating Pokémon’s strength 110.

Legendary Shadow Bond

Legendary Shadow raises her level cap to 120. Each level beyond 100 increases all stats by 20% 109.

  • This is potential growth, not an attained milestone: her latest supplied level panel records Level 74 247.

Ivy Cudgel and Physical Combat

Ogerpon forms an oversized, thorn-covered cudgel from energy. She can channel different move energies through it, including the Dark-type energy of Throat Chop 115 116.

  • Force: Crushes Pecharunt’s poison chain and drives it into a huge crater 115.
  • Improvised teamwork: Strikes Pupitar like a cannonball into Team Magma’s Pokémon and personnel 232.
  • Structural destruction: Smashes through Alto Mare’s reinforced Control Cockpit 255.
  • Collateral risk: Xia Chi considers ordinary battlefield Energy Barriers inadequate for her full-power attacks 247.

Moves and Energy Control

  • Initial recorded moves: Wood Hammer, Superpower, Power Whip, Spiky Shield, Synthesis, Throat Chop, Ivy Cudgel, Low Sweep, Slam, Swords Dance, Brick Break, and Grassy Glide 109.
  • Later demonstrated moves: Solar Blade, Counter, Horn Leech, and Play Rough 203 269 304.
  • Recovery: Combines Synthesis with the Tree of Life to heal after major exchanges 203.
  • Counter: Returns twice the physical damage received; used against Urshifu’s Aerial Ace 203.
  • Single Strike training: Mustard identified excessive energy leakage in her attacks and taught her to concentrate power into explosive strikes 207.
  • Pre-battle boosts: Returning her to a Poké Ball wastes accumulated Swords Dance and Grass Bond enhancements, so Xia Chi sometimes keeps her outside before combat 355.

Special Terastallization

Dense Terastal Energy transforms her Teal Mask into a huge floating totem with intertwined vines and green flames. Stellar Terastallization strengthens every type without changing the Pokémon’s typing 173 174.

  • Her first transformed strike sent a Stellar Noivern flying through the cavern 174.
  • She initially struggled to remove the transformed mask; stopping her energy circulation returned it to normal 174.
  • Her first blow against Area Zero’s crystal pillar failed to crack it, prompting a more serious Terastallized attack 175.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Four crystal-inlaid masks — Treasured possessions connecting her to her father. Xia Chi prioritized repairing the originals rather than replacing them; Geeta agreed to recover the three held by Kitakami’s people 103 106 122.
  • Friend Ball — The green Poké Ball she willingly entered to join Xia Chi 108.
  • Golden Spatula Crown — Equipped by Xia Chi to help address his limited Pokémon slots; also adds an equipment slot 154.
  • Chosen Badge — Grants her Chosen Pokémon status, +20% to all stats, and Grass-type Bond +1 156 247.

Relationships

  • Xia Chi — Trainer, caregiver, and protector. His kindness reminds her of her father; his support during her revenge battle brings him close to that father’s place in her heart. She rejects the suggestion that they are “just friends” 107 108 118 122.
  • Her human father — Original companion and parental figure. His murder and protection of the Teal Mask remain central to her grief and attachment to the masks 103 107.
  • Floragato / Meowscarada — Teammate and jealous rival for Xia Chi’s attention. Xia Chi asks Floragato to look after Ogerpon like an older sister; Floragato later recognizes how important Ogerpon is to his safety 108 109 129.
  • Lacey — The first human after Xia Chi to show her kindness. Ogerpon gradually accepts her affection and later willingly climbs into her arms 110 314.
  • Xuezhong — Descendant of the original mask maker, preserver of her history, and repairer of her masks. Ogerpon bows to thank him before leaving Kitakami 103 106 156.
  • Nemona — Supports clearing her name but frightens her with an immediate battle challenge 104 110.
  • Pecharunt and the Loyal Three — Her father’s killers and the thieves responsible for her persecution. She pursues revenge against them under Xia Chi’s command 103 115 119 120.
  • Mustard — Opposing Trainer and later martial instructor; teaches her to improve attack concentration through Single Strike Style 202 203 207.
