And just like that, we made it into the top twelve. Jieli and Wutong were up next, facing a Litleo and a Flabébé. Aggron blocked every attack, then took both opponents down with a single Rock Slide, ending the match... Jieli's Skiddo never even used a move. Standing beside Wutong, Jieli gazed at him in admiration. "Wutong, you're so strong!"
"I didn't expect that to happen either!" Wutong said sheepishly.
On the third day, we won after another tough battle. Our opponents used a male and female Meowstic that kept jumping around, making them incredibly hard to handle. We finally cracked their Double Team tricks because my Fennekin learned Fire Spin, replacing Growl. How did replacing moves work? That took communication too. I stroked Fennekin's head. "Now, forget Growl and learn Fire Spin!"
After that match, Meimo's Harry Potter learned Bite, and my Fennekin had gotten used to battling too. Meanwhile, Wutong breezed through his match again, prompting Jieli to protest. "Let me show what I can do too!" Wutong agreed.
Balance and speed were especially important parts of our training. After each day's matches, once we had recovered, Meimo, Jieli, and I went into the forest to train. We might have been opponents, but we were still companions, so it should have been fine. Wutong's Pokémon clearly needed no more training, so he stayed at the Pokémon Center to develop new menu items. He was so domestic!
On the fourth day, Meimo and I reached the championship match! Since we knew each other, the two sides traded some banter. "Don't forget, Wutong! Your Steel-type Aggron is really weak against my Fennekin!"
Wutong was a man, after all, but he still replied pleasantly, "Sure, give it a try."
Meimo joined in. "Sorry, Jieli! We're taking the victory!"
