"All the information in the Wudang Gym consists of precious knowledge passed down over decades. But our predecessors certainly didn't have scientific methods to verify it, so some parts have indeed been exaggerated into something almost mystical. Still, these records make one thing clear: mental energy greatly enhances a Pokémon's abilities."
Chu Xin nodded. He had seen Wu Yong's Pokémon before. That Lucario, who had mastered the Mind's Eye technique, was downright terrifying. After mastering it, Lucario could predict every attack an opponent made, something even more frightening than Kaka's instinct for spotting an opponent's openings.
Seeing Chu Xin's thoughtful expression, Wu Yong nodded. There was a reason this boy was so strong. His willingness to think things through was his greatest strength.
Wu Yong opened the book in his hands and pointed to a passage on one of its pages.
"Ultimately, mental energy is a way of quantifying a Pokémon's Inner Focus. The more mental energy a Pokémon has, the stronger its Inner Focus is. You've seen my Lucario, right? Between two Lucario with otherwise equal abilities, the one with greater mental energy has a better chance of winning. Can you guess why?"
Chu Xin shook his head at Wu Yong's question. This really was outside his knowledge. He had never studied Pokémon's mental power before, and his first exposure to the subject had been in the Wudang Gym's Data Library.
Seeing Chu Xin shake his head, Wu Yong said nothing more about it. He simply held up the book and patiently began explaining.
"First, let me ask you this: where is a Pokémon's mental power stored?"
Chu Xin stared at Wu Yong with wide eyes. He really had never thought about that.
