Background / History

Before transmigration, Chu Xin was a small-time Pokémon gaming streamer. His claim that he was a Dragon-type expert who could defeat anyone with a single Dragonite made Dragonite a compulsory part of his streaming identity, even when viewers criticized its competitive performance. During a stream, he fell from his chair, struck his head, and subsequently awoke as a newborn in another world 1.

Reborn into Chu Lian and Tian Shuyao's wealthy household, he grew up wanting a Pokémon of his own. His parents' work kept them away for much of the year, leaving Aier to look after him. On his twelfth birthday, Aier interrupted his attempt to catch a Caterpie, and Chu Lian instead gave him a Dratini egg 1 2.

Chu Xin discovered that his new home was a parallel Pokémon world: people called Pokémon “magical beasts,” and no Pokémon League existed. The Ancient Donghuang Kingdom nevertheless had Champion Monster Tamers, giving him a recognized goal to pursue 2 3.

Appearance

Chu Xin is described as a handsome young boy with soft, rosy cheeks 1.

  • Red-inspired cap: Prepares a red cap modeled after Red's and wears it during Chu Lian's visit 9.
  • Ash-style baseball cap: Purchases one before the examination tournament 26.
  • Red-inspired outfit: Arranges a complete Red-style outfit for his academy registration 48.
  • Training injuries: Sustains burns and wounds while rescuing Xiao Wu from the scale's energy; touches the resulting scars after waking 19 21.

Personality

Chu Xin is ambitious but not consistently solemn about his ambitions. He initially announces becoming Champion before he even owns a Pokémon, enjoys posting victories online, and accepts an autograph request partly to satisfy his vanity. When stronger opponents expose the limits of his preparation, he becomes more methodical rather than abandoning his goal 3 4 27 31 32.

He regards Pokémon as partners and family, not merely battle assets. He promises to care for Dratini before catching it, rescues Farfetch'd from becoming restaurant food, and risks severe injury to reach Xiao Wu during the reverse-scale incident 4 19 24 25.

His training style mixes affection with manipulation. He uses food promises, reverse psychology, and threats to reduce Pokéblocks to motivate Xiao Wu. Although he can be lazy himself—abandoning a promised shared run to rest—he later accompanies Xiao Wu through months of demanding preparation 6 7 16 26 47.

Chu Xin recognizes that game knowledge does not automatically make him a capable real-world Trainer. He accepts Aier's corrections, seeks Chen Huan's expertise, and studies opponents' recordings closely. His confidence can falter against overwhelming strength, particularly Bai Le's Scyther, but he repeatedly returns to preparation rather than conceding 13 17 32 37 40.

Abilities & Skills

Understanding Pokémon

Chu Xin can understand Pokémon's speech or expressed thoughts directly, first demonstrated when Aier summons Garchomp 3.

  • Understands Pokémon he has just met, rather than relying only on a long-established bond 3.
  • Uses the ability to interpret Xiao Wu's objections, fears, and motivations 6 9 11.
  • Communicates with Chen Huan's Vespiquen and receives directions to the Gym Leader 43.
  • Does not possess demonstrated telekinesis: he cannot bend a spoon or independently sense Kaka's psychic talent 3 44.

Pokémon Knowledge and Battle Tactics

His previous life's gaming knowledge gives him familiarity with species, moves, abilities, and competitive strategies 1 10 32.

  • Marvel Scale exploitation: Directs Xiao Wu into flames to endure an attack, relying on its status-triggered defensive boost 10.
  • Flame Orb preparation: Later deliberately burns Xiao Wu with a Flame Orb to activate Marvel Scale before battling Bai Yuan's Scyther 32.
  • Opponent analysis: Uses dossiers, live observation, and Aier's recordings to identify threats and prepare counters 30 32 33 40.
  • Battle rhythm: His fast-paced victory over Zhuo Xing impresses Bai Le, who praises his control of the match's tempo 37.
  • Limits: His knowledge initially centers on game statistics; real Pokémon require physical conditioning and energy control rather than automatically learning moves through leveling 9 17.

Training and Conditioning

Chu Xin develops routines around each Pokémon's weaknesses, with substantial guidance from Aier and Chen Huan 11 13 18 45.

  • Uses densely spaced trees as an obstacle course for Xiao Wu's Extreme Speed, arranging nearby treatment and clearing surrounding Pokémon beforehand 11.
  • Studies Chen Huan's notebook to understand energy control and tailor Xiao Wu's training 18.
  • Assigns Kaka two hours of daily Calm Mind practice, running, and repeated leek swings to exhaustion 45.
  • Uses practice battles to identify weaknesses that ordinary drills do not reveal 22 46.
  • Recognizes that Kaka's presence can motivate Xiao Wu through competition within the team 48.

Pokéblock Production

Chu Xin makes homemade Pokéblocks from Berries growing in the family garden 5.

  • Chops and blends the Berries, filters the juice through gauze, and refrigerates it in molds 5.
  • Uses Pokéblocks as nutrition and training incentives for Xiao Wu 5 6.
  • Pays Chen Huan's tuition in Pokéblocks and freely gives additional blocks to Vespiquen 15 17 35.

Dynamax Deployment

Chu Xin uses a sealed Dragonite reverse scale to give Xiao Wu access to Dynamax energy 22 36.

  • The scale gradually strengthens Xiao Wu's physique, even during periods of inactivity 36 45.
  • Keeps Dynamax as a hidden tournament trump card before revealing it against Bai Le 36 41.
  • Access depends on the scale and Chen Huan's seal; the uncontrolled energy previously injured both Chu Xin and Xiao Wu 19 22.
  • Dynamax is not an automatic victory: Xiao Wu only narrowly defeats Bai Le's Scyther with its help 46 48.

Pokémon Team

Pokémon Acquisition Role and Development
Xiao Wu — Dratini Birthday egg from Chu Lian; hatched and caught two weeks later 1 2 4 First partner and intended ace. Possesses inherited Extreme Speed and Marvel Scale; develops moves including Thunder Wave and Dragon Tail, and later gains access to Dynamax through the scale 6 9 10 36.
Kaka — Farfetch'd Rescued from a chef, then caught after demonstrating his psychic talent 24 25 44 45 Initially recruited partly as Xiao Wu's training partner. His psychic talent reveals vulnerable spots and improves his strikes, but poor stamina, fitness, and battle experience require focused training 45 46.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Poké Balls — Used to catch and carry his Pokémon 4 45.
  • Everstone necklace — Supplied by Aier for Xiao Wu; suppresses the energy interfering with move control, but also weakens Dragon Rage 12.
  • Dragonite reverse/Outrage scale — Originally loaned by Chen Huan. Its uncontrolled energy causes the training disaster; the subsequently sealed version becomes Xiao Wu's Dynamax resource 17 18 19 22.
  • Chen Huan's notebook — Gym Leader training notes covering Vespiquen's development, energy control, and methods later used for Kaka's Calm Mind training 18 45.
  • Flame Orb — Used to burn Xiao Wu deliberately and activate Marvel Scale 32.
  • Gym Badge — Accepted from Chen Huan before the license examination, allowing Chu Xin to travel with his Pokémon rather than leave it at home 15.
  • Exercise equipment — Purchased at Jindu's monster training center and sent to the family villa 13.
  • Aier's video camera and recordings — Used to review tournament opponents, especially Bai Le's Scyther 35 36 40.

Relationships

  • Chu Lian — Father and head of Infinite Energy Company. Gives Chu Xin his Dratini egg but initially opposes his Trainer ambitions; permits the assessment as a test of his talent 1 24 25.
  • Tian Shuyao — Affectionate, boisterous mother whose teasing often overwhelms him. Supports his chosen path and celebrates his tournament progress; she previously reached the top fifty herself 1 2 28 35.
  • Aier — Maid, caretaker, training adviser, and someone Chu Xin considers family. Provides practical guidance, medical preparations, opponent information, and practice battles 11 12 30 36.
  • Chen Huan — Jindu Gym Leader and paid training mentor. The scale incident damages Chu Xin's trust, but he continues seeking Chen Huan's expertise and later proposes academy-funded Dynamax research 15 18 21 22 43.
  • Lei Xiao — Police officer whom he calls “Big Sis.” Praises his partnership with Xiao Wu, helps with tournament registration, and advocates for his academy options 9 25 38 39.
  • Lei Jing — Rival who repeatedly boasts about Growlithe and provokes Chu Xin online. Chu Xin blocks both his main account and a burner account before defeating him in the tournament 28 35 39.
  • Zhuo Yuan — Jindu Academy dean and tournament host. Pursues Chu Xin as a recruit and promises support substantial enough to influence his academy choice 37 43 48.
  • Bai Yuan — Defeated tournament opponent who becomes a friendly academy peer. Exchanges contact information and offers help, while remaining eager for another battle 32 48 49.
  • Bai Le — Strongest opponent Chu Xin identifies during the assessment and his opponent in the final. Respects Chu Xin's tactical control; later attends Magic City Academy and intends to defeat him in a rematch 33 37 40 48.
  • Zhuo Xing — Tournament opponent and later academy guide. Her defeat leaves her in tears, but she helps him settle into school and requests another battle in return 37 49.

Story Role / Major Arcs

First Partner and Early Training

Chu Xin's initial disappointment at receiving a Dratini disappears when it hatches. He approaches it gently despite Aier's warnings and promises to treat it as family. After allowing it to pass through its newborn stage, he begins conditioning it, using the prospect of delicious food to overcome its preference for lounging 2 4 5 6.

His first battle against Lei Xiao's Growlithe ends in defeat despite a tactical use of Marvel Scale. The loss exposes shortcomings in Xiao Wu's physical abilities and leads to forest-based Extreme Speed training. Aier's Everstone intervention makes that training manageable, while Chu Xin begins seeking instruction beyond his game knowledge 10 11 12 13.

Reverse-Scale Disaster

Chen Huan's scale overwhelms Xiao Wu during energy-control training and produces a rampaging Dragonite projection. Chu Xin pushes through the energy to carry his unconscious partner, but collapses before removing the scale 19.

After recovering, he confronts Chen Huan and rejects the claim that the Gym Leader's supervision excused the injuries. He nevertheless seeks a way for Xiao Wu to control Dynamax, accepting the scale again only after its energy has been restricted with Imprison 21 22.

Monster Handler Assessment

Chu Xin persuades his parents to let the examination determine whether he should continue as a Trainer. Passing the assessment frees him from the prospect of abandoning his goal to inherit the family business 24 25 28.

During the formal tournament, he defeats Bai Yuan's Scyther using advance preparation, overcomes Wang Xing's Arbok, and controls the pace of his battle against Zhuo Xing's Abra. Against Lei Jing, Xiao Wu combines Bind, Thunder Wave, Dragon Tail, and Dragon Rage to defeat Growlithe and avenge the earlier loss 31 32 35 37 39.

The final pits him against Bai Le's exceptionally fast Scyther. Repeated video study lets Chu Xin anticipate its opening attack, at which point he orders Xiao Wu to Dynamax. His eventual championship attracts attention from leading academies 40 41 43.

Team Expansion and Jindu Academy

After the tournament, Chu Xin investigates the rescued Farfetch'd's unusual talent and catches him. Naming him Kaka, he develops a routine targeting psychic ability and stamina, then takes both Pokémon back to Chen Huan for further training 43 44 45 46.

Chu Xin chooses Jindu Academy because its promised support exceeds what he expects to receive as an ordinary student at a more prestigious institution. After two months of training, he enrolls, chooses the Battle Department, and sends Kaka into an academy rematch against Zhuo Xing's Abra 48 49.

Trivia

  • Chu Xin admits he is bad at naming Pokémon: both Xiao Wu's and Kaka's names receive little deliberate thought 45.
  • Red is a major influence on his preferred Trainer appearance, from his cap to his academy-registration outfit 9 48.
  • His tournament participant number is 666 26.
