Speaking of Heracross, this Pokémon really was a relic of a bygone era!
First of all, Heracross was a Bug-type Pokémon with a base stat total of 500, making it one of the strongest contenders among all Bug-type Pokémon.
Heracross's Abilities were Swarm, Guts, and Moxie. In the Pokémon games, its main roles were setting up, wallbreaking, pivoting, using Knock Off, and revenge killing.
The only verdict for Heracross was that it was another casualty of the times. The addition of the Fairy-type dealt a massive blow to its Bug/Fighting typing. The series of changes in Generation VI sent regular Heracross straight into obscurity, and Mega Evolution made it swap places with Pinsir in the pecking order. It even became the chief representative of the Route 1 Bird Victims Association.
Things did not improve much in Generation VII, because Fairy-types became even stronger, and two more Sub-Legendary Bug/Fighting Pokémon appeared. Bug/Fighting coverage already had three blind spots: Flying, Ghost, and Poison. A four-attacks Heracross could at least patch those holes with Stone Edge, Knock Off, and Earthquake, but once Fairy became a fourth blind spot, four move slots simply were not enough. Compared with Beautifly and Buzzwole, Heracross lacked Poison Jab, leaving it short on ways to deal with Fairy-types. It was especially helpless against the new generation's menace, Tapu Fini. (What? Give regular Heracross Bullet Seed? That might actually be worth considering.)
Heracross's stat distribution looked very comfortable, with its mediocre base 85 Speed being the only real complaint. Then Generation VI gave it a Mega Evolution that reduced its Speed by another 10 points, leaving everyone speechless. Base 85 Speed was very well suited to a Choice Scarf, but Heracross could not play hit-and-run with a Choice item because its light upper body and heavy lower body apparently
