"I never thought I'd actually encounter one-and a Legendary Pokémon, at that!"
Bai Le stared at Chu Xin in shock. Although he had already heard about the Legendary Pokémon incident in the western Plateau Region from his Master, this was still Chu Xin's first encounter with a Legendary Pokémon here.
"That Legendary Pokémon is called Mesprit, right? It's incredibly powerful! It can even enter other creatures' dreams!"
"It's all right. That isn't actually its main ability. Mesprit's most unusual power lets it sense other creatures' emotions and manipulate them to a certain extent."
Chu Xin corrected Bai Le's misunderstanding and explained Mesprit's abilities in detail.
"Manipulate emotions! That's incredible! Can anyone really defeat a Legendary Pokémon like that?"
"Sure. Mesprit isn't particularly powerful by Legendary Pokémon standards. As long as you're strong enough, you can still beat it."
In the Pokémon games, Mesprit wasn't a particularly powerful Pokémon. Its base stat total was only 580. Although it was a Legendary Pokémon, those stats fell short of even some pseudo-legendaries.
Mesprit's Ability was Levitate, which made it immune to Ground-type moves. This was a trait shared by all three Lake Guardians.
In the games, Mesprit could serve as an entry hazard setter, physical wall, special wall, Knock Off user, Trick Room setter, offensive powerhouse, or pivot. Because of the ornaments on the Lake Guardians' heads, Chu Xin also called them the three mushrooms. With its red hair, Mesprit earned the nickname "red mushroom."
In competitive Pokémon battles, Mesprit was arguably the most unfortunate of the Lake Guardians. If the yellow mushroom could at least compete with Mew for usage thanks to its impressive bulk and Memento, the red mushroom was a complete tragedy. It was a pure Psychic type whose base stat total wasn't high enough for a truly balanced spread,
